MIX it up!  Hey, do you design, develop or manage web sites? Well, if so, then  MIX06 is the Conference not to miss. It all happens on March 20-22 in sunny, sultry Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

What is MIX?

MIX is our new consumer web focused event, a 72-our conversation with developers, designer and business professionals to explore high-fidelity commerce, content, media, service and security.

In this video, we meet the minds behind MIX and find out about the content, scenarios and sessions that will be featured at the event.

Tim O’Reilly, who, for better or for worse, coined the term “Web 2.0” will be speaking at the event along with other leaders in the web space including Amazon, eBay and PayPal.  The Channel 9 team will be at MIX too so come on down Niners!

We’ll see you in Vegas, baby!

I wish I could go too, but it's a long way. Airfares are forbidding from here, and I would probably need to take my parents and sister if we were going to America.

Charles, I've been to PDC, been to Tech Ed, and been MS Mobile conferences.....Mix just seems too new this year. I want to hear the reviews from attendees and videos on channel 9 to decide if I should attend next year.

Because I live in the UK and the costs would be way too high.

    I'm in for Vegas.

How much time i'll actually be spending at the conference is still up for debate though. Tongue Out

  • C'mon - surely you guys are going to "mix" in live broadcast and interactive sessions for us in the UK and beyond who have 2MB broadband??

If you're doing a 72 hour session about Web 2.0, then why not go the full way and Web2.0-ify it ??

In fact it's my mum's birthday on March 20, so if not for me, then please for her!
  • where's my ticket Mad lol
  • IanIan Proud to be geek ....

This looks great.  Are there any discounted tickets for MSDN subscribers (One of the sponsors) - or XBOX 360 owners!??

Could anyone with information post about cheap accommodation options in Las Vegas? (might help to clinch it for us indy contractors!)

  • Can you give us any idea of the overlap of material that will be covered in MIX06, compared to what was presented at PDC in Sept 05. If there's some new material (breaking new stuff, especially on WPF, Atlas, Sparkle, etc.) it might be very interesting...
  • martin_lovickmartin_lovick vi all the way!
....and I thought MIX was the original architecture from knuth....

The content will be quite different from PDC. Very focused on the Web. PDC is really focused around Windows applications (with some exceptions).

Also, the PDC is all about Microsoft. Mix will have some really key stuff from eBay, Amazon, MySpace, and other companies.

Cheapest place to stay (if you cant afford the Venetian $300+ a night) is the Imperial Palace. It is easy walking distance (3 minutes on the strip, and thats walking slow). I think around this time of year its around $65 a night, but depends if its on the weekend and time of year. Rooms are ok, nothing special. Second option would be the Budget Suites, which is a little further than the Imperial.
  • Just thought I would post some info if you are looking for affordable accomodations, I'm surfing Expedia looking at hotels and flights and for Friday through Wednesday (5 nights) I'm seeing pretty much every major strip casino/hotel falling in the $1100-1300 range.  That's not too bad and includes Fri/Sat rates.  If you are just going to fly out Sunday through Wednesday you can probably knock $300-400 off that.  I'm not going to pay the $225 discounted rate to stay at the Venetian, I can see the value in staying at the same place as the conference but there are a bunch of cheaper casinos right next door/across the street.  The Bellagio comes out at $4400 though!!  The Excalibur is currently coming out the cheapest on Expedia, at $850 including my airfare for Friday through Wednesday.  Maybe they are running an Expedia special?  If you are willing to hike it all the way up the strip or take the monorail maybe it is an option.

FYI.. for anyone not ever been to LV, the excaliber is a nice treck down to the Venetian.

A cheaper hotel that i stayed at last time was the Barbary Coast.  I went out last september and we stayed for 4 days and it was a total of 350, thur-sat.  So make sure you check the prices there.

I am currently trying to talk my boss into sending me, but not sure if he is going to go for it, since he wants to change our site over to sharepoint and there is only one session that even talks about sharepoint.

    so wish me luck

  • I wish I had seen this video before I had threw my invite in the trash.  I knew there was no way I could afford the entrance fee, but I would have jumped through the hoops to get there after watching and hearing about MIX and what they were going to speak about.  I hadn't been to a good conference in years since moving out into flyover country.
I have Allegiant Air to LV that has $99 round trip air fairs.  And family that lives in LV, so I had a cheap room.  Well, maybe I'll have to catch it next time.
