There's been an awful lot of talk lately around Rory leaving Microsoft. Charles happened to run into him today and interviewed him for Channel 9. So, want to know what's really happening? Tune in.

Yes! Vindication, Amigos!
I must say, I saw this day coming. The proposed future of Rory's career didn't sound at all pleasing, but now the truth is out. Rory, best of luck to you and all that you do. Us niners will truly appreciate the path you have chosen to take, and thanks to The Sandman (Jeff), and Chazz for their support in your big transition.
Jonathan
WOW!!!

Alright !!Right On!
Hey RORY!!!
rory I hope your greatness will really make "9" Great
now If we could get a small touch of the old DNR days
-- live stream and a realtime chat room to ask MSFT folks questions!!
now that would rule!!
the live shows were a big draw to me on DNR, in fact now that they have stoped my viewing of DNR has dropped....
Stargate is cool....
Get the Ori and the Wraith to take-on each other and have the replicators take on the winner!
but then we would have to invent a new enemy!
Yeah, this is the right place for you Rory!
Congrats to Channel9 on this "catch"!
Q: Can you talk to someone in MS do some productivity improvements in unmanaged world (C++)? I now that .net is red-hot - but a lot of developers still have to use C++, and working with C# and watching it evolve makes C++ world look very gray with it's horrible sound-to-noise ratio. Even pre-compiler form MS-specific-C++ to standard C++ would be nice.
Ivan
Please tell us what you have in store for the Blythster/c9 integration!
We're looking at doing this exact thing. In addition to regular C9 style interviews, Rory most likely will do a weekly show too. Not sure if that will be Audio/Video or both.
Very exciting times ahead for C9!
-Jeff
Cool in any way if we can make that happen!
now about Google .... rory will they let you do a bit of the old google thing ?
Probably not I guess but...
What is "the old google thing" ?
I want Rory to first:
- Do more .NET Screencasts
- Build a c9 chatroom for the niners
- Do a weekly program on general development material
Maybe 1 and 3 can be merged...And once he's finished with all that, then he can get to whatever else you other niners want him to do...be generous with the Rory, puff puff pass..don't hog'em.go to the archives of www.dotnetrocks.com and listen to the old shows Rory was on...
Congrats on the new position Rory. You never fooled me for a second.
Very sly.
Congrats , Rory.
Wow ... this will be again a great place to visit
I always knew Rory was Robert with few beers (and minus that crazy laugh
)
I celebrated when Rory joined the company but I cheer loudly that he's going to the 9 world.
Right ON!

MS lost nothing after his resignment.
Dude, you didn't even watch the video (OBVIOUSLY), and you managed to slide passed every post before yours and miss the subject of their content...way to may a fool of yourself.
Rory didn't resign, and he is afar from annoying. Why don't you crawl back under your rock, and come out when you can show respect to those who make this community worth the while.
Now now, don't resent him for being the smartest man in the world. Someone's gotta do it.
But he is sitting on the 9 guy
Anyways, congrats to Rory and C9.
So C9 vids will have bit more comedic touch to them, should be interesting to see how he makes this thing work or if it totally blows up in his face:D
Awesome comic, Adam
Welcome aboard, Rory!
C
That's what my wife says too!
Go Rory!
Yeah, I noticed that. Hummingbird mode is kind of normal for him. Maybe the pelvic thrusting is setting him up to be the Microsoft Duffman.
So, ah, what's wrong with stargate sg-1? Rory, you haven't lived until you've gone to an ancient egypt exhibit with friends/family and explained every exhibit in the context of the show. I spent a day at a museum with family doing that, and they had never seen the show and thought I was seriously nuts. Their young kids actually started to believe me.
For some strange reason, I want to see Rory interview Bill Hill. I don't quite know why, but it just popped into my head. Either they'll get along great, or Rory will end up going on a "nature walk" and not coming back. Either way it'll make for great video.
Ok, enough of my attempts at inane rambling. Have fun Rory, we'll miss you on the events circuit. BTW do you know who will replace you? Please tell me it won't be some boring corporate wonk.
Re: Scoble stuff... Scoble is a C9 founder and is the most prolific interviewer in our short history.

Rory will bring himself into Channel 9 and add his specific ingredients to the soup.
I stressed that Rory is not a replacement for Scoble simply because that would make it seem like we were actually looking for a replacement for Scoble. In fact, we were looking for someone new. A different voice. A fresh perspective.
And, I'm now free to really go off the Going Deep end
I'm really excited to have another full time interviewer (actually, conversationist is the correct terminology for a Channel 9 video person) to work with.
Should be a fun, educational, and different year on C9.
C
Hey... we had to have some fun with this
We kept that thread going as long as we good, but you guys were onto us.
Still, it was a good time. And I really am doing the clothing site blogging thing - but that's just for kicks.
Well, thank you very much for the welcome.
Seriously, I can't believe I got this job. When I was driving back to the airport tonight, I just kept thinking, "Wow... *nobody* deserves a job this cool."I hope to deliver and make you people happy. When I got the notification that I had been accepted for the position, my world froze for a moment. I couldn't believe it. Still can't. It's... Just. Too. Cool.
And the people I've met in building 18 are all awesome. As someone who's been in the field, I really look forward to actually working in an office with people I see on a daily basis, and Charles Torre (my mentor and partner in crime), is just... yeah. Wow. He's really laid back, has a lot of ideas, and I'm just so lucky to be working with him.
I can also tell that Jeff is going to be quite the boss.
I could go on, but I'll save it for my own blog
Anyway - onto the other comments.
But thanks again for the welcome to what I now consider "home"
Wow
Thanks, Figuerres.
Channel 9 is already great - I just hope I don't ruin it
I can't promise anything, but I can tell you this:
1. In the interview, Charles said they couldn't fire me - I haven't checked with my attorney yet, but this might be legally bnding
2. Jeff said I could whatever I wanted to be successful
3. I have a company credit card
You do the math, my friend
Seriously, though, Jeff has stressed that C9 is like this weird things where if someone has an idea, and the idea's good...
...it just might happen.
So we'll see what happens this year. We've already chatted about a few ideas, and I expect to learn much more as I come on board.
You're making me nostalgic. Carl and I are probably better friends now than we were back in the DnR days, but I still miss doing that show. Thsoe Friday nights, hectically switching back and forth between IRC and our own DnR custom conferencing software - it was crazy. And fun. And what Carl's built is amazing.
THANK YOU! It's about bloody time somebody else saw the light.
I mean... Richard Dean Anderson played his part so well (as did the rest of the crew). And the story... well, that's another conversation for another thread.
But, you have horrible taste in television, and I share it with you
To be honest, those sorts of interactions aren't what I'll be doing.
BUT...
If I ever interview someone on the unamanged C++ team, I'll try to keep that in mind.
We're still working on that, m'dawgg.
We had a very brief brainstorm on Jeff's couch today - it really just passed by. Probably faster than I could keep up, but I didn't let on because I don't want Jeff an Charles to know I'm stupid (they don't read these comments, do they?).
But we *do* have some ideas in the works already, and between now and the time I actually move into the C9 buildilng (around mid October), we'll have more ideas generated.
Also, it's about what *you* want, you know?
Is there something you people would like to see? We were talking about the possibility of me doing a weekly show - I have some ideas in this area, but I'd love to hear some feedback from the community on what's important to you.
This is good stuff.
I'll *definitely* continue doing screencasts. It's just in my blood to give talks.
As for the other ideas - I certainly like them. In the meantime, we could just do what we did in the old DnR days and have an IRC room (if that's OK with the powers that be).
The only problem I foresee is a live feed - not sure if they'd let me get away with that
But trust me - I've seen the team in Think-Mode, and we're going to come up with some great stuff this year. No doubt.
Hey, Afred...
While I honestly do appreciate the compliment, we have to remember that this isn't a person vs. person thing. Scoble is Scoble and does what a Scoble does (Scobles?).
I'm a Rory, and I Rory.
We're very different, but we're both driven by a desire to share cool technology in interesting ways.
So, no Scoble bashing
So, yeah - compliment definitely received, but let's remember that this isn't a Scoble-replacing thing. A cool thing about C9 is that everybody is crazy in a different way, and we all (C9 crew of the past and future) have/will add/added (hey - this is getting complicated
Scoble's will be missed
Again, though, thank you.
Betsy... you've always given me the sweetness, and I continue to thank you for it.
Also, yes - I was rather having my way with the C9 beanbag (if that's what you were getting at).
Just don't tell Charles, or he might never let me in his office again...
You know nothing makes me happier than a stick figure
You know nothing makes me happier than a stick figure
Oh, the worst.
I feel precisely the same way. I don't know what all these other people are excited about.
This "Rory" dude is obviously a chump of maximum chumptitude.
Hey - maybe you and me can start an "I Hate Rory" club.
I get to be president, and I'll make you the treasurer, which means you'll also be in charge of making the laminated ID cards.
This is going to be sweet!
We'll have parties with punch and cheese dip. And maybe something to dip in the cheese dip.
Oh, I can't wait. I love parties.
That was just too awesome.
Adam Kinney is teh rox0rz.
Before I even came to the C9 team, I actually tried to hire him to design one of my sites.
But he was too busy. I understand why now...
Thank you.
::Rory bows::
Thank you, thank you.
::Rory bows again::
I am sooooo looking forward to this year...
Well, Maryam is just a sweetheart.
She was always so pleasant to work with.
I can't talk about specifics, but I've made my own suggestion, and I know that this person has been considered.
If this person makes it, then you should be well taken care of...
But, like I said, I can't comment on any specifics at all
Somebody has to say this!
Treasurer... Hmmm, sounds good for me. I never ever was in charge of making the laminated ID cards before. Gilded - yes, laminated - never! But... may be just CEO?
Punch... Cheese... Yaiks. Not for me. My stomach will say me a lot of bad words.
Eah, parties... I was so long time ago...
PS: still clown.
PPS: Why nobody offering me such jobs?... May be because I'm so boring? Or may be because I've never asked for it?
Yay, way to go Rory ... that's definitely put me in a better mood now .. now I am sure someone much owe me $5 ...
W3bbo already setup #channel9 on efnet, and some of use Gabbly so we can chat and watch at the same time ..
Looks like some kind of "revenge on C9 guy" (nail or awl)
THAT is so good stuff! I like how Rory is drawn. We want more!
Saw your interview and dude this was more confusing then 24 and the matrix together. But why I really mail you isn't about just sending you fan mail, because I would love to have some of those promo nine material. Like the cool dole. Keep up the good work and I will see you in action the next months.
For my adres, give me a kick back on positronics@gmail.com

Congrats Rory. You go, girl!
All hail the great Rory. I will put a picture of you in the shrine room I am building. Any preference as to the picture frame color I should use?
Great video. We literally filmed, encoded, then published this video. Charles, Jeff, and Rory swung by with a camera and hung out as I ripped and encoded it before sending it thru our video encoding process.
Welcome aboard
Not really.
But at least you have the option.
Look... I don't want to give away the big secret to getting jobs, but...
Well... you helped me out (by doing what "had" to be done), so I'm going to help you out.
Basically, insulting the people who could potentially, eventually, maybe get you jobs...
...isn't the best way to get them.
It's funny. It reminds me of an MSDN Event I did where I had a heckler in the audience who was slamming me with all sorts of MS vs. OSS garbage. Nothing relevant to the presentation at all. Just the rudest little dufus.
Then, after the show, he actually approached me, handed me his business card, and asked if I could possibly get him a job at Microsoft, at which point he started listing off all his qualifications.
I don't think I threw the business card away in front of him, but it was gone before I left the building.
Just a little anecdote to help illustrate the problem
Dude - it's Microsoft.
The "big" C9 guy is filled with what we use for all filler material:
Baby seal blood and the souls of children lost.
Best thing I read all day.
You could have been a writer for the Larry Sanders Show.
Way to go Rory. Maybe you'll get to do a SteveB interview like last year's TechReady.
So...
You're saying that you started building your shrine room...
WITHOUT CONSULTING ME?
I have a standard template that I send out to all devotees who choose to use the little-man-prostrate animation you used, and it's very exacting.
For example, where's the fountain going to go? The waterfall with my face carved in the side of the rock? The 40ft platinum statue of me, standing triumphantly over all I have beaten down with my infinite power?
No. You've made a terrible mistake.
You are not worthy.
I am sorry. Truly, truly sorry.
But my ego knows no limits - its appetite can never be satisfied.
And especially not when people are going around screwing things up the way *you* are.
But try again next year!
Bah!
It's a habit I have from blogging.
Writing the post/doing the material is fun, but the good stuff comes when you get to talk with/fight against/threaten the people leaving comments. That's the reward for posting something
And the tool you wrote is very slick.
I was worried I'd have to learn something new in coming on board with this team, but you pretty much did away with that assumption.

Nice.
Soon, my friend.
Soon
*Glances over shoulder at BlackTiger*
Rory, you coul'nd find any better job.
So why don't you try your camera on the XNA Express Team ? Where there're funny people with interesting things to show...
Wow! 9 team this rocks!

Congrats Rory!
XNA is actually something I'm going to go after - and that includes XNA Express.
So that ought to make you happy
I'm sorry...the ceiling is only eight feet high in my house. Unless I can raise donations for a new roof, it'll have to go in the backyard next to the plastic flamingos.
In the mean time, I have some ideas for you here...maybe they will help.
I also will be issuing a new message shortly, Vista willing, that will bring hope and encouragement to all those fighting our noble battle.
I'm not up to speed yet on your story, I've only just discovered your blog so please forgive me.
It can be a little mad around here, plenty of signal and plenty of noise, one's thing for sure you'll learn lots and meet some really nice positive people ... I know I have thanks to C9.
Anyway, a very warm welcome.
Dave
And, for the record, SG1 rules, so step off Charles!!!
Omg, I'm out of the loop for a -few days- on business and Rory is moving into C9. This is going to be a lot of fun -- always loved listening to Rory from the early .NET Rocks days
Congrats Rory on the new position as I think you'll fit in nicely here. Looking forward to your C9 contributions =)
-Travis
Yo, congrats Rodawg!
I'm glad you didn't leave Microsoft, I was a bit worried you were going to move to New York or Michigan, or even New London :O
C9 just got a little better...
That's a great idea, but I'm hurt you'd ever even think that I'd be the celery-toting Who.
If anything, right now, I'd be (in order of preference):
1. David Tennant
2. Chris Eccleston
3. Tom Baker
Yeah. For serious.
Ian Smith disagrees with me about number one here, but... I really like him. I thought I'd hate him, but he's turned out to be quite fabulous.
And I actually prefer both of the most recent doctors to Tom Baker's. I know it's almost blasphemy, but there you go. You don't get to pick whom you love. It just happens.
I have a different interviewing style from Carl, but I learned a lot from him, so expect some goodness
(I hope.)
I know I'm late to the party, but congrat-dga-frickin-lations! I know you're going to do great things with Channel 9.
It's good to see creative and talented folks like you at the wheel of a great community like this. It's truly awesome.
I know you give me a lot of credit for the advancement of your career, but the world would have found you sooner or later. I feel like I just sped up the process a little.
I've said it before. You are a profoundly gifted writer and I'm proud to have known you when.
As for the .NET Rocks! Live feeds, they are coming back. Now that Geoff is back and able to manage that whole process we'll be able to do it again.
Nerd out
Uh. Yeah.
It was all me...
'Cause I probably could have found some other show to be on with around 200,000 downloads per month
No problem. You did nothing for me, Franklin.
NOTHING!
BTW - thanks to your little network of shows (including mine), I'm getting endless emails about whether I "Am" or I'm "Not" - I'm going to kick Miller in the nuts the next time I see him
See what I mean? Anyone who "wasn't" would simply open up a man-sized can of whoopass. I mean, is there seriously any doubt left in the world? On the other hand, someone who "is" -- that's the kind of guy who'll go straight for your nuts with a steel-tipped boot. And when contact is made, well, you're gonna look like this guy:
Keeping a tight grip on the soap,
- Millah
Carl, Keep up the great work, man. You have no idea who I am, but I'm #152,821 of your 200,000 downloads every month.
Just for the record, I don't wear steel-toed boots. I was actually going to remove my $500 pair of Tod's and kick you in the nuts with my Hugo Boss casuals. You don't deserve to be kicked in the nuts by a pair of Tod's.
You don't know what any of that means, but you'll learn quickly that being kicked in the nuts by a flaming metrosexual is no different from being kicked in the nuts by a posterchild of machismo such as yourself.
I'm warning you, Miller. You keep this up, and you're going to have a Prada shoe tread print permanently pressed on your cute little hiney.
Big names?
A few people might recognize me at a .NET dev conference, but if I walk to the Starbucks across the street, I get treated like everybody else
Also, I'm very glad you're alive - while I get more "I like you mail" than "I hate you mail," the "I hate you mail" tends to leave a bigger, deeper impression. You've done nothing but make me comfortable around here, and I appreciate that in a big, big way.
You're also an active poster who isn't a troll, and for that, you just rock
I'm #197,330. Procrastinator, you see. It's my tragic flaw.
I'd be a member of the "I hate Rory"-club and the "I love Rory"-club, not to mention the "I'm not too sure about this Rory guy, is he a cool froodle laced with hoopiness or just an annoying poser and would it really matter which way he went, hoopy or annoying, and you know what, I'll join the Millinator love/hate club as well"-club
Ah, decisions, decisions.... just too much for my pretty mind, it's hard enough to choose between DKNY and L'eau de Cartier 6am in the morning.
I go straight for the nuts but only when I play poker. I love taking pots with a queen high straight - that's completely normal poker talk, don't get any ideas, Mark "Misguided Missle" Miller.
And a small edit: Rory is a dandy, Millah, and you want to be one to but you're too lazy to put the required hours into it. Man, you're so lazy you created CodeRush to code with less effort, how lazy can you get?
Would it help if we were Blue badge?
Come on Guys....
Awesome move Rory. I knew you were making the change, now I have 3 places to read your ingenious thoughts. Maybe I'll be able to see through that psychodelic(?) world you see every day. Where things make total effing sense.
