Mark Miller is the main designer of the E and Caja object-capability programming languages, inventor of Miller Columns, a pioneer of agoric (market-based secure distributed) computing, an architect of the Xanadu hypertext publishing system, and a representative to the EcmaScript committee. He's really into secure programming and is working hard to help make web programming a safer discipline. [source=research.google.com]
It's been a while since we last chatted with Mark, so I was excited to get a chance to see what Mark's been up to lately. As you'd expect, Mark's been spending a lot of time working on ways to lock down JavaScript (and the DOM, which presents a different set of problems to solve). If you've heard of Caja, then you're most likely familiar with Secure ECMAScript (SES), which is part of Caja's implementation. Mark spends time here discussing improvements and experiments taking place in this realm. Tune in.
Thanks for coming on C9, Mark! Always great to talk with you.
Recently, Channel 9 was invited to attend the great SPLASH conference. What is SPLASH? Systems, Programming, Languages and Applications: Software for Humanity. A big thanks to the SPLASH event organizers for inviting me and my camera to engage some key computer scientists and engineers in geeky, fun conversation! SPLASH is a great event! I learned a ton and met many amazing computer scientists and students.
SPLASH is an annual conference that embraces all aspects of software construction and delivery, and that joins all factions of programming technologies. Since 2010 SPLASH is the umbrella for OOPSLA and Onward! [source=splashcon.org]
