VS2008 designed for Vista with better aesthetics and usability

Author: Hi, I am Daniel Moth Smiley

Introduction: While we all love focusing on language and framework features, sometimes it is nice to get small aesthetic and usability enhancements. The Visual Studio 2008 IDE has plenty of those as you can see in this video. Related to that, VS2005 does the job on Windows Vista, but it is quite obvious (to me at least!) that it is a "ported" application and not one designed to fully take advantage of the platform; in contrast, VS2008 leverages Vista-only features as I demonstrate in this video. The relevant posts on my blog are here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here.

[Maybe this is one occasion where it is faster to watch the video than read about each featurette on my blog Wink]

    Thanks !
Of course, it was just some humor, but i must admit that VS2008 looks great. I'll wait and see !
  • This might sound silly, but I'm razzed about the "Organize Usings" feature.  I couldn't for the life of me figure out why this feature was missing in 2005.  It was the one feature from my Java development days that I truly missed in VS.
  • Don't know about "silly" but I have to say that is one of my favorite new features in VS2008! I guess there is some truth when they say "the devil is in the details" Wink
  • Hey guys. I don't think the link to this video is working.
    Thanks,Nestor
  • Hi Nestor

This works fine for me so maybe it is a specific firewall/machine config issue.

In the meantime have you tried the Download option (10MB ZIP)?
Try that instead please (click on the 'here' word in the Download video section above)...

    Cheers

Ho yes you're right, what a wonderful set of graphics glitches and bugs. A nice demo of windows vista. Thanks for this view from the future...
  • Thanks for your comment lzm... I think... and a warm welcome to channel9 (I see you joined yesterday and this is your first post - cool).
  • Don't wait and see.. Get the free public Beta 2 Express and start playing Big Smile
  • Can I install/play with VS2008 Beta without affecting my current VS2005?

    Thanks,
    Mark

  • Mark, VS2008 supports side-by-side installation with VS2005.

Note that you don't need the Beta, VS2008 was released last month, so get the RTM. You can find this in your MSDN subscription or if you are not an MSDN subscriber get the trial.

    Cheers
    Daniel

Darn my luck, Daniel, but I cannot get this download whatsoever today!

Did it roll off the edge of a HDD when new content was added?

    Cheers.
  • Thanks for reporting John. As per my direct email, please try again.
