While I was out in Chicago for PHP Tek I had the opportunity take a short side trip out to Evanston, IL to sit down with Robert Jacobi and Christian Kern from Arc Techology Group to discuss their latest project: OurNewNeighborhood.org. It is a "proof-of-concept" Joomla! site running on Windows Server with IIS 7 and with SQL Server as the database. This is a great demonstration of how to take advantage of pieces of the Microsoft stack within Joomla including Live ID, Bing Maps and more which have all been released by Arc Technology Group as Open Source on joomlacode.org! Finally, we discussed the future of OurNewNeighborhood.org and the plan to move it to Windows Azure which will serve as another great example / proof-of-concept for Joomla developers ready to make the shift to the cloud.
