Our mothers always told us to protect our hearing. Well after an extended adolescence, with tours of duty at Lollapalooza, Bumpershoot, and E3, her words are ringing in our ears (though neither loud nor clear). Thankfully hearing aid technology has kept up with humanity’s attempts at damaging itself into coolness. Today’s audiologists can allow those with significant hearing loss to cut down on yelling at everyone, or just over-clock a healthy pair of ears up to Superman levels.
We went with Microsoft’s own Jeremy Mazner to visit Dr. Jennifer DeCastro for an update and a rundown on the cutting edge of computer-personalized, Bluetooth-enabled aural bliss.

Laura = Best Singer Ever! Um, okay anyway...
It was really interesting to see how far the hearing aid technology has advanced and the level of control now available to those that wear them. Maybe the next gen mp3 players will incorporate this kind of technology for listeners to help them improve upon the listening experience. You never know...technology is crazy like that!
Cool segment and thanks for the bit of entertainment at the end there - lol.

Great stuff - who'd have thought Bluetooth would find its way into hearing aids!
I reckon we'll all get hearing aids - biochemically activated - that will let people wirelessly stream music from their iPods directly to the ear hole.
C'mon Steve, what's keeping you?!
PS - What's the Name/Who's the Artist of the song Laura treats us to at the end?

Great segment, Laura. I never thought about using a hearing aid on an individual with normal hearing to give him or her superhuman hearing. That's a great idea. I am not a fan of inner-earphones, though. I've always found them uncomfortable. I don't fancy anyone sticking things in my ears. I prefer the paded earphones that just cover my ears.

It's amazing how doctors can adjust hearing aids on the fly remotely using bluetooth technology. I'm wondering where the technology is headed and what other applications it might be utilized for.
...and yes, Laura...you're a fantastic singer! Well, entertaining anyway!

Hi Laura,
Very funny, Laura you are nutty. The show needed more singing, that part was good. Your funny, smart and you can sing? I think I'm in love. Can't wait for your next show, pretty lady.
