So the picture looks like something out of Star Wars right? Well, if you know me- you know what a HUGE Star Wars fan I am so when I saw this place I knew it was something I had to get on film. I happened to be in the neighborhood (Hawaii) so I stopped by to check out the
Mauna Kea Observatory.
The summit of Mauna Kea on the Island of Hawaii hosts the world's largest astronomical observatory, with telescopes operated by astronomers from eleven countries. The combined light-gathering power of the telescopes on Mauna Kea is fifteen times greater than that of the Palomar telescope in California -- for many years the world's largest -- and sixty times greater than that of the Hubble Space Telescope.
Do yourself a favor and click around the Mauna Kea website for a while- there is some AMAZING info on there. If you're like me, it will re-ignite that childhood dream of becoming an astronomer! To the stars....and beyond!
