Why did Techcrunch and the Scobleizer get a heads-up when Microsoft community bloggers didn't?
We have received your request for an invitation to Popfly. We will e-mail your invitation when we send out our next batch of invites. If you have any further questions about Popfly, you can reach the Popfly team at our Popfly User Feedback address: suf@microsoft.com
Cheers,
The Popfly Team
Cheers, is that how you great people in the Great Northwest?
Greetings was the way the US Draft board greated you.
Great Video Rory-
This looks awesome.
Nice add in for Visual Studio for devs.
Nice web interface for both devs and non-devs.
Tools like these are going to bring even more and more people into development - this is going to be a great tech!
Great video, popfly will realy rock when it comes out
One thing bothers me though - I am not that much of a web developer although I have some experiences, just not with ASP.NET/web services etc - I am kinda basic scripting lanuage+sql guy. So the question is - do I need IIS/Windows machine to run Popfly? Or is it completely static content and you can run it from let's say OpenBSD with Apache/Lighttpd (that's what I would do) so everything is executed on client machine in a browser?
Where is it hosted/executed? Thx for answers
V4 is written on a completely different code base. That is the reason it's taking a while to complete... It's a monumental task and the dev team has been cranking really, really hard. It has nothing to do with Popfly support, though that's an interesting idea, Jamie.

Why do you laugh with Dan because he has a high voice?
Popfly - with it's Visual Studio integration, ease of creating gadgets and displaying data - looks like the perfect place to create a community of people built around Microsoft technology. Hell, it's obviously not aimed at the mainstream, and the Advanced View to edit modules has some incredible power.
The team says they're working on allowing people to share Windows Forms programs, and I'll bet WPF is easy enough.
I am seriously impressed. It can grab amateurs, and has some features for more advanced users. The social element looks well thought-out and the ability to "Rip" mashups is, well, totally cool.
Gannotti: You've spent too much time working for Microsoft
We hope that C9 V4 will be Silverlight and Silverbright.
I like the ducks on the home page though.
//Ducks are super cool.
Thanks!
Really? Oops! Sorry. I didn't know. I thought it was someone else doing the voice-over. I hadn't watch Rory's video either. I just saw the demo. (feeling embarassed).I just watched the video. ZippyV, stop messing w/ me!
LOL, you guys crack me up, I'm a guy (see my other C9 videos for "proof") and my voice isn't that high.
As this is C9, I'll give you some background. Suzanne Thompson is the Program Manager who works on things like user feedback, tutorials, screencasts, etc. Early on she started to do some demo screencasts and, although she has no professional voice training, we thought she sounded like a Pro. Rather than use my inferior voice, we went with Suzanne for all of the videos.
For this actual video, I wrote a demo script for Suzanne to read aloud (with her edits of course) and we met up early this week to record on my laptop/account.
We used Camtasia for the screencase and she read the script aloud while I followed along "driving" the PC. In general it's easier to record the audio *after* the video.
In any case, I have not had a sex change operation
Microsoft continues to rock the world.
I kindof reminds me of "Robolab" - the school edition of Lego Mindstroms
Sweet
Very cool that you can share your VS projects...
Plus its great to see a non-movie playing Silverlight app
Can't wait to see how cool / easy it is to write the blocks...
One question though.. Popfly is aimed at developers and non-devs. I have to ask: how many non-developers are going to create mashups and the like?
Going to be cool!! I admit, I prefer the fact that you can share projects around friends - could be very cool to see what everyone is working on quickly and easily.
But honestly, not only would I say that Microsoft is the most innovative tech company currently on the block but, it's the most open which of course is key in accelarating and securing the adoption of the platform. I'm vaguely aware of things Apple and Google are working on only because I know a few people that love to talk about things that are 'Top Secret'. The first Core Animation Beta is set to release in about 3 weeks and still the major peice of information is a marketing video of a "3D Photo-Domino". I think by the same time in WPF's history there had been nearly a year of CTP's, ton's of docs, articles, blogs from the developers and evangilists on all major aspects of the platform and even a book on the market. This is why I hate to see Apple gain market share... I dont want to have to be in the unforunate position of having to design and write apps for a company that's run like the CIA when it comes to releasing developer oriented information.
Yeah, see.. Kids on MySpace creating mashups? I just don't see that happening.
I'm going with the crowd on this one - its going to rock.
Who're the 25 C9ers?
