DDD has to be one of the best community events there is. This was the third time I attended and wild horses couldn't keep me away. I drove down from Glasgow and it was well worth it.

My only complaint is that there are so many great sessions going on at the same time that I never know which to choose.

We do have Brits on here because the language used on the forum is predominately English, because of this it can seem that there are a lot of us, but I like to think we are a friendly bunch and we are as open minded and ready to listen to what you have to say as the next person. You might want to take a look at Scottish Developers. We are a non-profit user group based in Scotland that is by the community for the community of the community (to misquote Lincoln). And, most importantly of all, membership is free!

We are in the process of arranging events for next year and I'm sure you'll find many channel niners there too.

Specifically, I'm trying to put together some events in Glasgow and am wanting to know what people want to here about. If you're interested in that you can comment on what you'd like to see (or give a talk on) here.

Below the belt Eagle... stop right there. And the US has plenty of coverage too at many events. The difference here is that we the community leaders suggested that we got C9 involved at the organisation stages to get the video done. If they hadn't done it we would have done it instead.

Maybe you could consider getting C9 to follow one of the big US community events in this way, but be nice to the C9 guys or they won't do it with you!

Back on track now ...

One of the best things I love about user groups is that they give the opportunity for anyone to try their hand at speaking. Many groups have latched onto this with a 15 min 'nugget' talk at the beginning of an evening.

Now I'm going to do my first 'nugget' in Jan at my local user group and it's my first public presentation.

Not sure what your problem is Eagle, but we are in fact (and have been for some time) delivering content in more than one language. I can't scale to cover the entire planet, obviously, but, then again, Channel 9 is not (nor has it ever been) about me...

I will travel as much as I can next year, but, remember, Channel 9 is not the only job I have (I own significant components of both Mix and PDC...)

Be patient, it takes time to scale and it will require international communities to make Planet 9 a reality. I have a budget and it doesn't include travelling to every country in the world.

Eagle, just what "constructively" are you looking for C9 to do in terms of international video's.... they have been doing quite a few different ones around the world with their WM_IN stuff...

Barcelona
Japan
Russia
UK
US

All these places coincide with events that Charles and his team have been fortunate enough to get along to.

One man and his camera can only get around so much... so the question is what do you want from C9... content or countries? Surely what you really want is good content from the people who know their stuff, or are you looking for something that just doesn't really fit with the whole C9 ethos? (I'm assuming that you aren't just trying to be difficult, because if you are you may as well stop that now because people will just stop taking you seriously.)

Back to the point, what makes the DDD model successful?

1) Completely community run event

2) Different user groups coming together and push in the same direction.

3) Community speakers with real world experience this makes credibility

4) Informative and popular sessions because the community votes for the sessions they want

5) Good venue, it's not central but it is very easy to get to and the rooms are good.

6) Supportive sponsors that allow a very high degree of freedom and autonomy

So what have I missed ?

The thing is that it's a simple format and there is no reason it couldn't be copied else where by different countries or communities.

The Geek Dinner afterwards is an excellent social and networking opportunity.

A packed day so that hardest descision is which of these great sessions should I attend. If it were repeated over 2 days so I could see presentations I missed the first time round I feel I still wouldn't see everything I wanted to. The quality is that high.

As much as I hate to say this; a lot of English people talking tech seem to come across as uncharismatic on video (not talking about this one in particular) which is a shame. We really dropped the ball on this one compared to our American counterparts.

Five hour drive - Is that all!

I drove down from Glasgow, got as far as the South Lakes then realised I'd forgotten my medication and had to drive back again - so that was an extra 250 miles (and £30 of petrol) on my journey. Total journey time 13 hours.
