Steve Friesen - Macintosh Business Unit Tour

Download

Right click “Save as…”

What's this? A Macintosh on Channel 9? Are we gonna get fired for this?

Nah.

It's the Macintosh Business Unit at Microsoft. Meet some of the folks behind Virtual PC and Entourage and get a look into labs that most Windows developers at Microsoft have never seen.

This is the Silicon Valley part of the Macintosh Business Unit.

Massive sync problems, or is it my PC?

We're seeing them here too. We'll try to get a new version made. Sorry about that.
  • dnrfandnrfan It's .NET
Only if you feel that it's neccessary.  I get the jist of it anyway.

Would be great if you guys made it better quality.  I assume your using Windows Media Encoder?  Which setting are you using?

Yeah, but these were encoded at our studios, so we're not sure what they did. It's the first time we've seen this behavior.
  • Is it possible to get a couple of answers to my questions at http://channel9.msdn.com/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=33816 ? Thanks Smiley

  • Wow that wus amazing.

That one part wair he mentioned something about he's old companie and they  got 500mb HD's .. then he thought how could i fill that up.

Well thats just like now... I had 20 gb and used to think it would be impossible..lol but now got 100GB

  • azavarehazavareh Donuts. Is there anything they can't do?
    Hey Robert:

I loved the video, great work as usual but one question. I like your cell phone that you flashed briefly on the screen. What kind of cell phone is it? Smiley

    Thanks

Darn, even inside the Macintosh business unit TabletPC's are being mentioned by the C9 team. As a comment to this; Perhaps soon the iTablet will be revealed, since MacOSX does ship with InkWell for tablets (Wacom) and even ThinkSecret did mention a rumor.

Ok, .NET is a good development platform. But don't forget that http://www.mono-project.com/ is also supported on MacOSX. Windows.Forms isn't supported... ok?!? This doesn't take away that applications can also be created with .NET for Mac.

    That's an Audiovox SMT 5600. It's a great phone.

Tablet PCs just make so much sense that I can't help myself. Maybe Apple will have one soon.
  • Man, you MAC doods sure get harassed a lot by the Windows team... Ah well, it's to be expected. It's nice to see the MAC Business Group so focused on quality and MAC user satisfaction... It would be nice to see a little more of that rub off on Windows...

Oh btw, what's the deal with the TabletPC salespitch throughout this "MAC Business Group" video? Why can't the MAC developers just show what their doing without the constant harassment?
  • scobleizerscobleizer I'm the video guy

Cause I am a Tablet PC lover. Sorry. But I think that a computer that you can't write on or carry around and use while standing up easily is a little lacking.

Well, it's great that you feel that way... I'm happy you're happy. But perhaps you could stick to the subject at hand in future videos (not just the MAC ones)? You could also do a video just on TabletPCs if you really want to talk them. Sorry about all the posts, but the TabletPC babble just really got on my nerves, specially since I was watching the video to find out about the MAC Business Group (as specified in the name of the video I clicked on).

I sorta agree with Grren_Ears, the constant Mac vs. PC proding is annoying. It's not enough to have to read various Platform War type messages all over the internet on anything related to Microsoft, but then we have to hear it from Microsoft people within their own company.

On the other hand... C9's concept and execution has been outstanding on the whole, so I rather give you guys compliments then to focus on a 1 bad thing out of 100 good things.

  • scobleizerscobleizer I'm the video guy
Well, OK, but when you get my videos you get my passion and my passion is the Tablet PC. Sorry. You aren't gonna remove that from who I am. I was a Tablet PC evangelist before I was hired at Microsoft.

Of course, this'll all make sense when Steve Jobs finally gets on the Tablet bandwagon too. Wink
  • pacelvipacelvi Phear
Hmm. sounds like you really like that tablet thing,  I've never used one.. maybe you can send me one so I can see what the fuss is about Smiley

Haha, I'm sold, send me one too! Evangelize man! Where's my free bible?!

....maybe having something nicer than the 47Kbps version for download would be nice, since WiMP:Mac is incapable of functioning correctly with WM streams that have multiple bitrates? 'Cause, I dunno...being able to watch it on a Mac on something other than "suck" would be cool.
