PAC-MAN world champion crowned and new game unveiled

Okay, a few days ago the PAC-MAN world championship was held in New York.  The winner was Mexico's Carlos Daniel "cdborrego".  Unveiled at the event was a new PAC-MAN game titled PAC-MAN Championship Edition.  I always find it fascinating that a game as old as PAC-MAN still generates interest.  Here are some of the features of the new title:

  • A brand new game: PAC-MAN Championship Edition was created specially for the first-ever Xbox 360™ PAC-MAN World Championship held in New York City in 2007. Now you can play the Championship Edition on Xbox LIVE®.
  • New mazes and game modes: All-new mazes feature great gameplay challenges. Try the Darkness Course where maze walls are invisible and only the area around PAC-MAN and the ghosts can be seen. Or check out the Freeway Course, a high-speed challenge where everything moves at twice normal speed.
  • Enhanced environments: The traditional PAC-MAN look has been completely updated with a new, modern high-definition look and new soundtracks.
  • Achievements: Earn 12 new achievements and up to 200 Gamerscore points while taking on the challenge of PAC-MAN Championship Edition.

I just watched a new documentary titled "The King of Kong" which is one of the best video game movies/shows I've ever seen.  It basically follows nice guy Steve Wiebe and his nemises Billy Mitchell (Whom lost at the recent Pac-Man world championship and who is not such a nice guy) through a battle of the best Donkey Kong player on the planet.  The film is filled with controversy (Steve Wiebe's record breaking scores are constantly dismissed through a panel of people whom happen to be great friends with Billy Mitchell) and high and lows.  If you get a chance to check out the flic, you should.  And if you don't, no worries, New Line is going to make it into a feature film but I'm sure it will not live up to the documentary.
