You’ve been hearing a lot about Federated Search within Windows 7 – the new feature that lets you search external websites from within Windows Explorer. If you want to know how you can let users connect to your web service from within Windows, there’s now a resource that can help. The first version of the Windows 7 Federated Search Implementer’s Guide is available for download here.
This document covers subjects such as crafting the best OpenSearch Description File for your site, returning files and custom properties, customizing the results view, optimizing your source for performance, and more, says Brandon Paddock, one of the document’s authors.
For more information on federated search connectors, check out “Using Windows 7 Search Connectors.” Some of our favorites include the flickr connector, the support.microsoft.com connector, and the Twitter connector.
