Microsoft Hohm, the new web service that lets you track your home’s energy use has now gone live. Developed using advanced analytics technology from the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the U.S. Department of Energy, the service lets you set up a profile for your home by answering a slew of questions about your home’s energy environment, including things like the details of your heating system, the year your house was built, the type of appliances you have, and more. This isn’t a quick setup, but it’s worthwhile to fill out as much as you possibly can in order to build a complete profile of your home.
Once your home’s profile is complete, Hohm can help you by providing detailed recommendations and ideas on how you can cut your energy bills. It’s like getting a free energy audit for your home. Also, see Nic Fillingham's interview with the Hohm team.
