About a month ago, Skype announced they were working on the next version of their mobile application for Windows Mobile devices. Now, that app is here. This update brings two new features to Skype 3.0 – SMS and file transfer. With the SMS feature, you can send and receive text messages from your phone using Skype credits instead of having to pay for them with your cell phone carrier. That’s great for those folks who are always running out of available text messages at the end of the month and don’t want to go over. It also comes in handy if you’re abroad and can’t afford the mobile roaming charges – you could just text over Wi-Fi instead.
The file transfer feature, though, is what really makes the new Skype a must-have. The app securely and privately moves docs from one Skype user to another, even if the files are moving across an unsecured wireless connection.
This latest version also had minor tweaks made to its user interface and the Pocket PC and smartphone versions of the app have been combined into one single download. To give it a shot, you can get it free from here.
