The No Child Left Behind Act is coming up for renewal by Congress. Much debate is ensuing about changes that need to be made.
However, Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings has gone on record saying that she thinks the act is "99.9% pure." Meaning, no changes should be made.
A shame, really -- I was starting to actually accumulate some respect for her for not being a complete Bush toady.

Teachers I know call this law "No Child Left Untested" and are not convinced that it has done anything but add to stress, add to paperwork and add to the energy lost that could better be spent on teaching. The amazing thing is that this law had so much bi-partisan support and I haven't heard many on either side of the isle talk much about changes.
