A new set of software lifecycle practices has evolved, often called Lean Startup or Customer Development, and has been emerging from Silicon Valley and accepted into the mainstream of enterprises worldwide. The central tenet is that business experimentation for customer fit is the core value of the lifecycle, and that the key to success is the effectiveness of rapid iteration to allow build/measure/learn and accumulate validated learning with minimum viable products. Unlike in the past, when business, development and operations were managed as three separate lifecycles, they now need to be managed as one. This talk reviews the state of industry, the change in practices, and the implications for all of us.
