We have the time of the session listed above
"Date: October 31, 2012 from 5:15PM to 6:15PM" ... it will be streamed live though, tomorrow at 5:15PM Pacific Daylight Time (PDT) ...
While this talk was well presented, it didn't really have any futures in it, and certainly wasn't 'advanced' in any way. Don't get me wrong, Brandon is awesome. The demo app was very good, and everything was accurate, but <yawn />.
With WinRT on Win8, NET seems redundant on windows - for legacy apps only. It still has a place in the cloud though.
After having dropped Silverlight (and Lightswitch as well) Microsoft has no RAD tool for creating serious and responsive user interfaces like pivot grid views featuring groupable headers and editable auto select listbox colums etc which were realizeable with C# only (no messing around with. css, chaotic javascript and tons of. html files) within minutes.. HTML is Ok for documents and static formulars but not for ergonomic, fast and rich user interfaces which have to be programmed and maintained within real project schedules. Not everybody likes html and javascript hacking with ASP. NET...
Bill Sempf was right saying that there has not been any news on the. NET platform... The last time this happened was with the presentation of Silverlight 5. You know how this ended. For me it looks like the former giant Microsoft is turning into an unpredictable partner...
Please upload slides, thank you
Why so negative? Compiling .NET source code in the cloud looks like a new concept to me and who said that Ms had dropped LightSwitch? There had been a new version recently with VS 2012 and the HTML client will be (hopefully) released soon. Why should Ms invent new features for the .NET platform when they 100% on WinRT, JavaScript and native code? By the way there will be lots of new features for ASP.NET in the near future which is also a part of the .NET platform.
Hi Peter,
I hope so much that you are right. I still remember the big Firestarter Silverlight Event not too long ago where Microsoft showed a bright future of Silverlight. Half a year later it was dropped. This made Microsoft an unpredictable partner in my eyes, for the first time within 25 years. We are now doublechecking our C# based application family for Mono and Linux compatibility, 'just in case'... At least better than turning to a different language and runtime environment starting with J...
The lack of any specifics on .NET's future was very disappointing. I thought Herb Sutter's "The Future of C++" put this talk to shame.
Evolution of .NET? Just compare the number of sessions on C# and VB.NET to the sessions on C++. This talk should have been titled as "End of .NET"
I'm really confused.
I'm just starting, or better, trying to start learning something that will let me code some personal project on Windows.
I don't know C++ and I don't even know C#.. and, as Amit said, it just looks like the future speak C++.
Does this mean that for personal projects ( aka Non commercial, hoobist etc etc. ) I should just avoid C# and go for JavaScript ?
I feel like lost with no clear path to follow for develop on Windows for Windows, excluding C++.
Looking at sessions I just see C++ and HTML5/JavaScript.
I don't want to hear doom and gloom of .NET. I love the C# language and .NET. I would hate to see it go.
I'm disappointed. This guy said nothing new at all! Watching is waste of time.
