Many Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) based on ASP.NET (AJAX) or Silverlight suffer from common mistakes: browser navigation buttons cease to work, network latency is not properly handled, search engines do not seem to rank the site any longer, and usability tests lead to disappointing results. All of these issues can be dealt with, and this session will show how. We will use ASP.NET and Ajax to make modern web applications bookmark-able again and to re-enable the browser's back and forward buttons. We will discuss approaches to deal with slow network connections, provide usability best practices, and engineer a Silverlight application so that it can be found easily again in search engines.
