Building data tier applications that can be deployed to and moved between on-premise and cloud is fast becoming a major requirement for applications. The SQL Server team is enabling customers to build such applications by adding platform technologies like contained databases (CDB) and data-tier applications (DAC). Together, CDB and DAC technologies represent a fundamental shift in the architecture that will streamline the development, deployment, and management of SQL Server applications between different environments (i.e., on-premise and cloud). This session covers how SQL is building a symmetric surface area for the development and management of database applications, details and demos on how CDB and DAC function, and a roadmap for the harmonization of the application model for SQL Server and SQL Azure.
