Windows 8 contracts are agreements between Windows 8 and your app that allow you to integrate your app into Windows 8 experiences. For example, Windows 8 lets users share content from one app to another by using the Share contract. In this session, you'll learn how contracts work and how to implement the built-in contracts such as Search, Share, Settings and Play To.

Impressive and pretty straightforward capabilities for a user intgerated experience.

However An App that exposes a Plain Text or other common Share, will be in competition with 1000's of other Apps also sharing that Contract, so unlikely that our implemented App Shares/ (Searches) will get any exposure in the first 10 in the proposed Apps List.

Surely can only be realistic for Custom Share types.
posted by Jules

@Jules, first of all, I don't think any one user will have thousands of apps that can receive plain text. Second, I think that users are going to choose their share target because they know it and want it and not just because they saw it in a list. If I want to share some text on Twitter, then even if I have a ton of share targets that accept text, I'm going to go searching for that Twitter app because that's what my usage scenario is. Finally, the list of share targets is organized by frequency of use, so hopefully after a little bit of actual use it will be a good list of targets you often want to use.
Thanks for the comments.
posted by Jeremy Foster
