I'm looking to sell my pc, I have Windows XP MCE 05 installed on it from the OEM cd i bought with the hdd. Unfortunately I don't have the cd or serial key in good enough condition to sell (or even read!).
Is it still legit to sell my pc with the software installed even although there's absolutely no COA/recovery cds included?
Edit: selling on eBay UK if it makes any difference. The product is activated (not registered) & confirmed on the Microsoft website for MS.com downloads. Including remote + receiver too.

Exactly, how would the buyer know you didn't install a rootkit?

Delete the OS and make sure you use Eraser to make sure everything is GONE. It allows you to make a bootable disk. The norm I have seen on EBay is not to ship with an OS.

If you're an OEM System Builder, you can request a replacement media. They'll need the COA, which can be found on the label printed on your computer. It's under where it says product key. That way you'll have your CD to whom you're selling it to. Though, I do believe it's OK to sell without the media.
You can go here to fill out the form: http://oem.microsoft.com/script/contentpage.aspx?pageid=555744
Hope this is somewhat relevant

Note to self: Read entire thread; just saw you don't have the COA, D'oh!
