Diesel is more expensive than standard gas.
The crap? Diesel is much cheaper here. A quick search tells me that currently Shell Royal Dutch Petroleum will charge €1.47 for a liter of Super 95 unleaded (which is what most cars run on), and €1.12 for a liter of Diesel.
LPG (autogas) is the cheapest (makes sense, it's the most environmentally friendly) at a mere €0.52 per liter. Unfortunately, converting a car to LPG is expensive (although, depending on how much you drive, the difference in price can pay back the initial expense within a year) and much of a hassle. To make matters worse, LPG tanks needs special mounts which are not always compatible when you go abroad. Bit of a downer when it turns out you can't fill up your nice LPG car when you're in France (or something).
