What is your favorite and worse computer or SciFi movie?
I just got done watching "Hackers" which I would say is one of my all time favorite movies...which slightly boarders next to "War Games"

I like 'Hackers' too, but I think it's not that realistic. They're talking about Pentium-chips with RISC, and they all use Apple computers! And according to the movie, while hacking you see 3D animations and other cool stuff.

Best comp movie:
Hackers
(Reason: Just a fun story, told in a fun way)
Worts comp movie:
Takedown
(Reason: Just don't like it, can't really pinpoint any reason
)
Best scifi movie:
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
(Reason: For it's time a compelling story, created with stunning special effects (if you think about the possabilities back then))
Worst scifi movie:
The Langoliers
(Reason: Horrible film version of a great book)
All a question of personal opinion!

There are plenty of great sci-fi movies out there. I haven't seen a good "comp-sci-fi" movie ever though. 2001 is classic for HAL, but I didn't care for it really.
-
Best comp movie:
Takedown
Worts comp movie:
Sneakers
Best Sci-Fi:
In the Beginning
Worst Sci-Fi:
Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of * (Is that Sci-Fi?) -
The worst for me have to be the second and third Matrix films. Not because they are the worst films ever made - they are bad, but there are worse. Its because they are such a monumental let-down after the first one.
One of my fave Sci Fi - The Quiet Earth. -
My favourite has to be Tron
What a bizzare movie, but I thought it was great when I was a kid.
My real favourite whould have to be one of the manga flicks like Ghost in the Shell or Akira if they count. -
Best comp movie:
War Games
Because for five minutes while I was at school, computing was cool
Worst comp movie:
Swordfish
Do I really need to state why?
Best sci-fi:
Blade Runner
It's an obvious choice, but I make no apologies for that - a genre defining film, and one that has been copied ever since (although never bettered IMHO).
Worst sci-fi:
Battlefield Earth
Scientologist bollocks, and the second John Travolta film in my list. And we had such high hopes from the ol' T-Bird based on his performance in Pulp Fiction.

The Matrix

Not THAT realistic? You must have seen a different movie called Hackers than I did.
-
Best Sci-Fi:
The Matrix - The whole concept of this move is pretty cool.
I also have fond memories of watching the original Star Wars when I was a youngster about 10 times in the movie theater. Looking at it now, the acting in Star Wars was marginal, but as a kid. . .outta this world.
Worst Sci-Fi:
Fortress
Best Comp:
War Games
Worst Comp:
The Net
If they can do it to me, they can do it to you.

I just can't stand any movie with Sandra Bullock in it. The premise of the movie wasn't all that bad though.

I can't believe people haven't mentioned the Mircosoft parody Antitrust (http://imdb.com/title/tt0218817/). But I think Hackers tops my list too! :>

Yea I recall that one.
It is hilarious the similarities between Tim Robbins and bill gates. and at the end of the movie how everyone was cheering open source. it doesnt seem to me like a parody.
at first i thought you were talking about this movie http://www.billgatesisdead.com whats up with that anyway?
why would anyone create such a wierd film? -

I don't understand what you mean by this comment or how you interpreted my post. What I mean is, that I don't think Hackers is realistic. If you also think it's not realistic, but that my post was too mild, I agree. -

Yeah, that one's hilarious. They are developing a super high speed, ultra compressed satellite communication system; and when you look at their screen, you usually see HTML- or JavaScript-code. -
Best comp:
War Games
Reason: I saw this movie my first summer before college. Until then I was going to be a business major.
Worst comp:
Computer Beach Party
Reason: Just something about a guy souping up his car with a Wang that just didn't sit right with me.
Best SciFi:
Blade Runner
Reason: Liked the story, good character development (unusual for SciFi), great visuals, good soundtrack (if you are in to Vangelis and New Age)
Worst SciFi:
Battlefield Earth
Reason: Good in some parts but the whole fact that the Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard wrote the book and outspoken Scientology member John Travolta "starred" in the movie just didn't click. Religion and SciFi just don't mix well in my book, although I'm sure many would disagree.
