I love work...they blessed me with a test machine today
And out of everyone in the department they picked me to get it, and when I did I only had one thing I wanted to do first...

Very nice! I only wish I had a monitor to use on my test system... a copy of Windows Vista wouldn't hurt either ![]()
yeah we recently got a new manager from outside the company to give a fresh look on things. 70% of my job is research but lately we're starting to get into development. We've had a few clients that have Vista and had some concerns and instead of having
a POC in our main development center to ask questions of he pulled a few strings. He's seen me on Channel9 and I continue to preach about widening our horizons...so he pulled a few strings...
Now I just have to make his begging pay off...but he wouldn't have done it if he didn't think I would. New computer, new LCD monitor...and everyone Ooo'd and Ahhh'd when the desktop came on. Me, I headed straight to getting glass working.
Cybermagellan, the skewing effect are so cool, I really wanna know the hardware specs for this test machine, care to tell me?
Sheva
2.6Ghz Celeron
1 GB of RAM
Single 250GB HDD
Nvidia GeForce 5200
Turns out he's been asking around because he hears me "pimpin out" Scobles videos to certain co-workers and we have an internal chat room and he sees me linking in there....So he aquired a machines and pleaded with IC and Dev to get me Vista...I can tell something
is outa whack cause it's been trying to get a network address for the past 4 hours now.
They copied Project Looking Glass!
Copied, shmopied.
That's a bad UI if you ask me. The front-most window disappears too quickly & the back windows are not shown enough -- Huge waste of space. 3D isn't automatically a good thing.
You realize some day, some smart-aleck spyware maker will work around the pop-up blocking features of Vista and cause a bunch of pop up windows to cascade towards you in 3-D like a deck of cards...kind of like the victory screen in a game of Solitaire.
I played that last night...absolutely wonderful that's all I have to say.
I agree. I've been using it for a while and I think it's not very good. I overshoot windows all the time because you basically have to aim at them with the scroll wheel instead of just clicking on them like Expose' or IE's Quick Tabs.
Here is a (quick and dirty )mockup of IE's Quicktabs extended to the desktop. I think it works much better. It allows the eye to quickly scan all the windows and provides a big target to aim at with the mouse. Notice that each window has a title (except
for the ones I messed up on) and an application icon. It's called "Quick View".
Microsoft feel free to use this idea in Vista.

and to expand on your idea, when you hover over a articular pnel for a while have it increase in size so it can be open for closer inspection
That would be great. Now all we need to do is get the Shell team guys to see understand and whip something up.
Any ideas? Maybe we should send them a chocolate cake[H]
