Seriously,
Can you install SQL Server 2005 side-by-side with SQL Server 2000?
I know VS Studio 2005 can't be side-by-side with VS 2003...

Steve Ballmer in his Live Keynote from San Francisco just said that Visual Studio Express and SQL Express are avabile as a FREE DOWNLOAD
So what are you waiting for? Go get'em!

Oh? I've been running that way since beta 2 on multiple machines. -
I don't remember whom, but I remember being told not to do that.. Hmm. Have to try it.

Both run side-by-side without any problems. Make sure to create a new instance of SQL Server when installing SQL 2005. Specifying the SQL 2000 instance will upgrade it to SQL 2005. -
Could you please post which version of VS you get at the launch event? The launch web sites are lacking in detail. TIA....
-
You get the Visual Studio 2005 Standard Edition, and the SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition.

To great disappointment, originally it was said we get Professional.
-
Don't those of us that went to PDC get copies of them too? Can't remember..
-
Quite good launch...I especially enjoyed the girl/woman presenting the club starter kit...

-
Tell us about it seven minutes after its started... No wonder I missed it... Perhaps a couple of hours warning?
-
Free for one year? What's up with that? Are they going to release another version after a year and disable these versions?

11. You said “free for one year” — what does that mean, exactly? Will you be charging for this later?
We originally announced pricing of Visual Studio Express at US$49. We are now offering Visual Studio Express for free, as a limited-in-time promotional offer, until November 6, 2006. Note that we are also offering SQL Server 2005 Express Edition as a free download, and that this offer is not limited to the same promotional pricing period as Visual Studio Express.
12. Do customers who acquire the Visual Studio Express products during the free promotional pricing period have to pay after the first year if they want to continue to use them?
If you acquire Visual Studio Express products within the one-year promotional period, you will enjoy the rights granted in the applicable license at no cost for the term of that license.
