This thread would be a lot more interesting if it was anti-handgun.

I don't have any statistics. I would imagine guns kill more, maybe not. But the victims too often did not elect to engage in harmful behavior.

No, smoking kills more.

Year to date we (usa) currently have 16,000 handgun deaths confirmed.

Annually over 5 million people die due to smoking and the various problems that result from the smoking behavior.

Smoking is bad for the smokers and worse of the non-smokers who breath the 2nd hand smoke.

The researchers found that more than 75 percent of all smoking-related deaths were among men, and this proportion increased to 84 percent in developing countries, where smoking has historically been more concentrated among men. The main causes of death attributable to smoking were cardiovascular disease (1.7 million deaths), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (just under one million) and lung cancer (approximately 850,000). 

While anti-smoking programs and policies are in place in industrialized and only some developing nations, an estimated 930 million of the world’s 1.1 billion smokers live in developing countries.

Majid Ezzati, lead author of the study and an assistant professor in the Department of Population and International Health at the Harvard School of Public Health said, “Our findings mark the beginning of an era when the majority of smoking-caused deaths occur in developing countries. Smoking-related deaths will rise substantially, especially in developing countries, unless effective intervention and policies to curb and reduce smoking among men and prevent increases among women are implemented.

The research was supported in part by a grant from the National Institute on Aging.

Sorry Neozon it's never makes you look cool. If your a redneck white trash smoker you will still be a redneck white trash if you somke when you drink. (example only, as I can't say if your a redneck white trash smoker or not)

Some people live longer than others & some die younger. They always make a big deal when a smoker lives long beacasue its so rare. If smokers lived longer than non-smokers then it wouldn't make a very interesting story. They say One in four dies early for a reason...its not 4 in 4.

I was trying to use a little sarcasm in my previous post.  Ha - Ha. 

Do I detect a little hostility in you?  Redneck white trash is a strong word to use on this post.  I assuming you think all rednecks are white trash.  Could there possible be some good rednecks out there that aren't white trash?
