C9 UI Looks very cool on this flat panel -- can't believe what I've been missing.

People still use CRTs?

You mean far Superior monitors at a lower cost? Yes, I think they might be.

Eventually, OLEDs will overtake CRTs, LCDs, and other TLAs. They will be bendable, but probably not creasable. Some moron MBA will eventually try. But, until the Flat Panels' screen size and resolution is on par with CRT for a similar price range (i.e., 21" viewable, 1920x1200 for $200), I'm sticking with the FatAss variety.

Wow, you really PREFER monitors? Yikes. I have a 19" Flat Panel at work on my Dev station, and I quite prefer this to my 19" Trinitron at home.
ALTHOUGH, the one thing that irks me, is that the flat panel only goes up to 1280x1024, rather then the Trinitron which goes up to 1600x1200. Grrrr

My 19" Diamondtron goes up to 1940x1420

well - far brighter and thinner - not superior..
resolution is king and crts can almost support the dots you see in a kodak print - to designers this means seeing almost everything on screen that will print
low res flat screens are great looking and bright - really good for designing for web ( = what all business laptop owners would see)
but for real work - ads / print where money is involved you need to see the images WAY clearer (not just brighter)
edit - manip i read your post wrong

How much was it new? Was that viewable or total? -

£350 GBP from OverClockers.co.uk back in August 2003, back when they stocked NEC-Mitsubishi monitors, but now Mitsubishi doesn't make them any more and OCUK only stocks Hyundai CRTs now.
19" total size btw.
There's only one problem with it though, sometimes the colours are a bit off and when it's in "SB:0" mode the color is inaccurate. For instance, it renders some greys as beng blue and sRGB-Mode is way to yellow for my tastes.

Wait a sec, w3bbo... I just googled images of "Diamondtron" and just to be sure, "Diamondtron flat"... these images all look like CRTs. I thought yours was an LCD; what model is it?

They're all CRTs. Diamondtron is the Mitsubishi version of Sony's Trinitron technology based on Arpeture-Grilles instead of Shadow Masks.
The monitor I've got as my primary is the Diamond Pro 930SB-BK (but with a silver bezel)

I'll throw my useless $0.02 into the ring: I have a 21" flat screen monitor (CRT) at home and I have yet to see anything that looks better. It's a Sony from about 5 years ago and I got it for $600 at the time.
Best. Purchase. Evar.
Too damn deep, tho
If you wish to play high-speed games, there is still no better tool than a huge CRT.

I love my 21" Samsung Syncmaster 213T. Picked it up for ~$500.
For coders, having at least 1600 x 1200 is a must (IMHO). Just think of all the scrolling time I save in a year being able to see more code at one time!

I'm purchasing another 19' flat panel in a day or two, coding faster now.
Gotta love it.

Steve411, why does your large avatar (at the top) have a picture of a lake, while your small avatar (post above) is "SonicReader"?
And.. how did you manage to do that (have two avatars)? -

By you having an out-of-date cached copy
Ctrl+F5 on his "small" avatar.
