New DNA studies suggest that all humans descended from a single African ancestor who lived some 60,000 years ago. Partnership between IBM and National Geographic uncover the paths that lead from him
to every living human
In one project, spearheaded by National Geographic Society and IBM, participants buy a kit for $99.95, scrape some skin cells from the inside of their cheek, and send the samples in for analysis. Once the DNA is processed, participants learn their haplogroup
-- the specific branch on the tree of early human migrations and genetic evolution that their maternal or paternal ancestors belong to. They'll also get a map of the migration routes of those deep ancestors

Him? I thought the concept of every human being descended from one person was based on mitochondrial DNA, passed down from from the mother, being identical. The "mitochondrial Eve" is a female - hence the name.
Although one thing that's always confused me: If the mitochondrial DNA is identical in every human, who's to say that it something "passed down"? Or is that based on evidence from other species? -

I'm not an expert in biology, but I'm thinking there would have had to have been two ancestors.

The correct statement is that mitochondrial DNA is supposed to be passed unchanged with females and the Y chromosome is supposed to be passed unchanged with males - however the copying process is not perfect.

Interesting, that it is an African American who is credited with producing a new species which has recently currently evolved from Homo Sapiens
In 1951 a new species evolved from cells taken from a Black woman
In 1991 the new species was declared official

That is so frikken creepy. The idea of shipping pieces of some woman's hoo-haa around from lab to lab so they could grow more of it.
And even worse, her descendents are now scrambling around for money because her tumerous hoo-haa saved millions of people. "Wheres our money, dammit. You OWE us."
Owe you for what? And, exactly what did Henrietta Lacks do besides DIE?
Idiots.
