Debating philosophical/legal issues/questions does not in-and-of-itself imply any level of disrespect/disregard for the existing laws.

Perhaps "linux zealots" do think that the only protection that should be afforded software is that provided by the GPL.  But advocating such a position is a far cry from knowingly violating IP laws which was the implicit accusation in your original statement.
