So, I'm listening to my iTunes music, and I need to pause the music. I have a Dell laptop, so it has media keys on the front of the machine, and I press the play/pause button. It's all good for a second, then I hear: "Welcome to the ARCcast podcast"--
it's the one about "is"-ness and "ought"-ness I was listening to earlier that I THOUGHT I had closed. Now, maybe I didn't close it, but it's still concerning that Windows Media player can mysteriously vanish after a while:

Anyone else had this happen before?
[edit] I know this wasn't b/c it was in skin mode or anything-- after I closed it I reopened it and it does show in the taskbar in skin mode.

Since when did iTunes minimize down to the taskbar? Or maybe I should use iTunes more often?
-
iTunes has minimized to the taskbar since maybe 4.5 or so, I think. It adds itself to the "Toolbars" menu of the taskbar, and works just like WMP's Minimize to Taskbar (I suspect this was a bug w/ that)
-
Did you have some tools installed wich use the WMP like a sidebar or widgets like in Konfabulator?
-
This happens to me if I end the 'explorer.exe' process. When it restarts, many of the system tray icons are not there, but the applications in question are still running, and when I close Windows Media Player the music carries on if I press play on the media buttins on my keyboard.

I don't have any outside applications running to control WMP like Konfabulator or anything, and I didn't kill explorer.exe. I think I must have run into a weird little bug or something.

I have the exact same problem with MediaPlayer and iTunes installed.
-
I have this problem too!
It seems like the thread that plays the music takes longer to die or so... -
Only if it takes a few hours for the thread that plays music to end (as I recall).
-
Oh!
Usually it only continues to play for a few seconds after the window is destroyed for me. -
I've had this happen on quite a few occasions and I have no idea how and why it happens, I tell it to shutdown via the close button and awhile later I notice it still running.
