According to a research of Sophos the German 18 year old student Sven Jaschan from Waffensen who admitted earlier to be the maker of Sasser and Netsky worm virusses is responsible for 70% of the released virusses this year.
He risks 5 years of jail. He wanted to force the respect of fellow students.

Old news. Let's change it a bit and ask everybody's opinion:
- If you had a choice, would you work/cooperate with this guy in your company?
- If you were the company manager, would you hire this guy?
-
Ok, we need a poll!
Lenn, hurry up
I wouldn't hire him or work with him yet, he first needs to find out if he truly gets satisfaction from his work or if he only does it for self recognition... -
I wouldn't hire him *Because* of this, it adds nothing to his CV. But in a few years, if he is suitably qualified I might. I wouldn't not hire him because of this, I don't consider him a massive damager to a company.
I don't hate this kid particularly, people do silly things, it happens. -

Should banks hire bank robbers? -
If they are hiring someone to stop bank robbers who better?
-
Making worms and exploiting security holes does not make him a genius. It makes him someone I can’t trust. He’s old enough to understand that his actions would have consequences. I hope he will get the full five years.
Btw; The new edit box is even wierder than the old one.

I've heard two possible reason for what he did.. first off he could be doing it for his mum's computer support business.. which is nice even if foolish. Or he could be doing it to impress his peers, which I can get.. Sometimes even at that age it is hard being accepted at school. If he feels he needs acceptance even if that is with the 'wrong' type of people then that is some justification in my book.
The robber analogy is all wrong for this, and agreed it does not make him an expert in computer security or a genius. However it doesn't make him evil or a danger to society. I mean when we where young we all did foolish things and at 18 all thought we where perfect, indestructible and would never be court.I also think that with age, people can change and learn from their mistakes. People can learn and people can change, if not given the opportunity because of his past mistakes how’s he ever supposed to move on?
-
No, its about trust. If he was so talented then why didn't he come up with a clever way to get his resume noticed and not find faults. Bank robber, yeah right, who better than to guard a bank then someone who is violent and sociopathic!? Come on, adults are supposed to know the difference between right and wrong. Any fool can break the law, it takes no genius whatsoever.

I would not hire him today. I might hire him after he's served time and has proven himself a competant programmer. There are skills involved in writing these worms, but from what I've read, a good deal of it is copying someone else's work and tweaking.
Also, note that to say "70% of the internet viruses" is somewhat misleading. There are thousands of viruses and virus variations. He wrote, I think, two of them? Those two just happened to cause 70% of the infection. (Yowza!)
-
You're right, I made an error with translating it from Dutch, it should be 'spread' instead of 'released'
-
But why take the chance when there are so many other competent people, who has not got his history, that I can hire instead? Basicly it comes down to his actions being a negative merit that makes him less trustworthy. Just like if you want to be a CFO and have a record for fraud.
-
Definitely wouldn't hire him... but I bet someone will, for PR value. "Look, we saved a young talented individual".. heh

Hire him? He should be executed!
(joking via exageration).. but he's a criminal, I wouldn't trust a known criminal (who hasn't shown a reformation of his character) to work for me... I would barely trust people who aren't known criminals. -
catch me if you can......
