Wow, I log off for a few hours and Beer28's banned, and all the "Beer28 is banned" threads are locked.
Guess I'll have to start my own then.
I want to say up front -- I think that Charles did the right thing. There were a lot of hateful words being thrown around, and many of them were posted by Beer28. That kind of behavior is far too destructive to be allowed to continue. Without restraint and
decorum there can be no dialog.
That said, I think that Beer28 has also made valuable contributions to the forum, and I'm sad to see it come to this. I would have hoped he could have risen above the petty name-calling and childish squabbling and stuck to technical discussion.
But he didn't.
Ah well. C'est la vie.
(this thread has released all resources and is ready to be locked...)

Please dont quote instances from the Ramayana if you have no idea what that particular shlok says or in what context that was written down. Plus, if you are comparing Beer28 to Ram then all due respect, please get some help.

For you information I am an Hindu. And to be precise the Ramayana was written in short poetic verses in sanskrit which are commonly known as shloks which are also prayers. The only excption to Hindu mythology is the Mahabharat which is not in shlok form.
The verse that you mentioned in your posts is a prayer to Ram and that is why I said please dont include posts from the Ramayana if you have no idea in which context it has been written in.
And just so that I know... what the heck do you mean "It is insulting to call it shlok"????

I do know that particular shlok and though I'm not Hindu I respect many of the texts, in particular the Ramayana and the Bhagavad Gita -- and its insulting to call it shlok -- there's wisdom there, for those willing to consider it -- perhaps you and many others here also should consider emulating that description.
I love you too!

p.s. I dont like this particular translation, but it was the only one I could find on the internet in a pinch.

I can imagine banning someone is much like firing someone. You really hate to do it but it has to be done. It also has to be an ego killer for the person banned. While I do feel a pang of regret to see it come down to this, we must remember Beer knew the rules and he violated those rules. i do feel a little responsible considering I did light the fire to him on one of his last topics and it probably didnt help. but for the most part, it was he who got himself banned.

Mine was the first. I wanted to get it into public view fast, but forgot the softies would still be online. -
Microsoft and many others are outsourcing to India and China.
Maybe no one in Michigan will have the money to buy Windows Vista. -
Drama, drama, drama... with the banana llama from Botswana!

Man they sure went lock crazy yesterday. New toy?

Thank you Charles! If I wanted a win haters ng, there are many to pick from out there. The us-v-them stuff is so 10 years ago and boring. -
Good choice Charles. Beer made a bad atmosphere

Oh for crying out loud. Boo hoo.
Everybody go home, install some flavor of Linux (or use a Knoppix disc) and come back with their opinions (although I suspect several people here already have exposure to Linux/Unix). The quality of Beer's posts dropped dramatically over the past few months. Part of me feels sorry for the guy because he was a bit delusional about things. Seriously, Maurits, what did you gain from Beer in the end? You got about 20% useful information, and about 80% garbage. Could you independently verify half of the information he spewed? Sure you could, if you had the time. Maybe not as individuals, but as a community, we do have the time to look into various things.
Edit: I could sit and go on for pages about some older things about how Apple machines used to work...the problem is, the community here doesn't care. No one could probably even hold a discussion with me about it. You care about Linux. You care about Windows (which is to be expected). That's fine. Do you want me to go and install multiple flavors of Linux on my box and give you feedback? Do you want me to tear apart the kernal source code top to bottom? I don't have time for that.
So, what are you really looking for?
Edit2: Besides, several knowledgable Linux people have come on this board before. Erisan, jaylittle and Russell Coker showed up. The members here paid scant attention. It was kind of like "ho-hum". It's like you want a psycho caged penguin or something but don't want it to offend you. I don't get it. -

This is nothing but the culmination of a thread you started last November:
Should Beer28 be banned
And similar threads by others.
In that thread, Beer actually apologized (sort of) for bullying Dahat about his weight. (To refresh your memory: Dahat had posted this really funny thread about dressing up as The Nine Guy for Halloween. Everyone commented and said it was funny. Except for Beer, who took a joke about Open Source personally and attacked Dahat. And some alias named "tdaxp" who mysteriously came out of nowhere to say "Beer28, I can't even tell you how much you rock. Beer28 for Presidnet" [sic])
But a few days ago, Beer went back and erased all his comments, including the apology.
And a few days ago, Beer started bullying Dahat again.
Bullies always pick on anyone they perceive as more vulnerable. Since Dahat is a big guy, Beer picked on that. Over and over.
jaylittle wrote:I've been passing emails back and forth with him since the incident and he truly honestly believes he was banned because he exposed MS' dirty laundry when it came to outsourcing to India and China.
LOL That's perfect. He's banned, not because he hijacked threads, not because he'd reply to questions he couldn't answer with nonsense or non sequiturs, not because he contradicted himself every two seconds, not because he pimped his company every chance he could get, not because he spammed us with ads for ShiteSpaces, not because he called jonathanh a retard, not because he repeatedly bullied dahat, not because he was a xenophobe, not because he was a hypocrite for hiring foreign programmers at his own company, not because there were multiple threads asking whether he should be banned and numerous comments to the effect that Channel 9 would be better off without him, not because of ANY of those things or a hundred other things --
...but because he "exposed the truth" about MS outsourcing.
He seriously needs psychological help.
Every civilization, every society has started out with the naive hope that we could all get along. And every society has eventually come to the conclusion that no, not all of us CAN get along, and unfortunately some people need to be removed from society.

Why does everyone gang up on beer? Aren't we entitled to opinions? If you can't handle a harsh conversation then please keep your nose out of it.
He was probably banned by most of you for personal reasons, I thought some had better judgment than that.
- Steve -
He was banned because his "opinions" were mostly deliberate disrespect toward everyone else here. It's that simple.
Shooby, ChrisA, et al. weren't banned because they do respect the rest of the community. While their opinions may be at odds with most people here, at least they don't call mods "backwards british retards" and such. -
Beer28 asked me to post this. I'm doing so anonymously. "Karim repeatedly called me a goat f__king homo and harassed me on a post Jonathanh deleted, and he was not banned for throwing insults at me, yet I was banned for mentioning that Microsoft outsources to india, and how that's bad, and because Paolo insulted my by suggesting I would bribe a govt official when that was completely untrue and I responded in an offended way."
-
I personally think its time to let the Beer28 thing die. Its over he is banned he will be back as Shooby, ChrisA or come up with another new nickname. Just time to let it go.
-
Isn't that a coincidence? 2 new members, backing up Beer, that joined March 2nd & 3rd. Not suspicious at all. And one of them is called Blatz, which is a brand of Beer.
