any ideas how it can be done?

i read some posts on this topic and will be glad if any of you guys can help us out on the great enigma of "5308 Audigy 2"

I didn't figure how I managed it. It involved reinstalling different versions over and over using the Creative installer, the device manager and whatsit. Until one point, the installation did suddenly NOT fail.
It works like crap though, volume control breaks often, needing a reboot. Glitches like hell.
Wanted to try the newer build of 5308, but that one craps out during the WinPE install phase. -
this dirver is giving me a really hard time with all the builds of vista
who do we have to sleep in creative to get a proper driver release for 5308[C] -
Buy a non-Creative soundcard.
-
Exactly. What kind of a world do we live in where we can't get audio drivers for a Beta OS, in a relatively new build?
-
Vista supports the XP driver model for sound cards, and virtually all XP drivers of other brands seem to work fine, just not Creative's, which instead decides to crap all over Vista.
So it's not a matter of beta OS. -
Creative has a list of supported drivers for Vista, but they might be old. Maybe these will help: http://tinyurl.com/glxet . You could also see if anyone on the Creative forums figured anything out.
-
Thats how I did it:
1. Download Vista Beta driver from Soundblaster.com
2. Start the installer
3. Keep the installer open and browse to the Temp directory where everything was unzipped to
4. Copy the drivers out of there
5. Open device manager and click on "update driver"
6. Point to the copied drivers and install
7. Worked for me without a problem!
8. Enjoy!
-
That didn't work for me. The device manager kept looking for "Preconfigured driver files" and failed to find them, while it could find them apparently fine for all other drivers I installed, including the Creative Game Port.
-
Although I haven't tried it myself, reportedly the kX Project drivers work on Vista 5308.
EDIT: For me the Audigy2 drivers did install, even caused the shutdown BSOD that everybody has with these drivers, but I never got any actual sound. On my other system with an X-Fi the drivers also cause a BSOD at shutdown, but they do give sound. No surround sound though.

Have you tried going to Windows Update? It's possible that there are drivers available for your audio solution there.
I know that on one of my test machines, the drivers for the SB Live! were on WU (the other one's an HDAUDIO machine and I use the built-in driver for it).
I also found the driver for the Radeon Mobility 9500 on my laptop up on WU.
YMMV of course

For build 5308, drivers for Creative audio hardware are no longer available on Windows Update. The reason is simple: the drivers on WU were the XP drivers and as so many have experienced, Creative's XP drivers are not compatibly with Vista. -
Well, as of now, Vista is not booting any more... I am pretty sure it has something to do with the Audigy drivers... This sucks! For now, I will enable my onboard soundcard and wait for an updated version by Creative. Grrrrrrrr...

Didn't Creative take years to get around to writing WDM drivers instead of VXDs for the Live! series? They never properly supported Windows 2000 and were pretty much forced into getting around to it for XP. There was even a rumour that MS got so fed up waiting they wrote the drivers for them. Now we have yet another new driver model, and yet another "super-dooper" Creative series the X-Fi and it looks like the situation is repeating itself. Creative have pretty much taken most of the > integrated chipset and < pro-musician market, yet their premier product line risks being left behind by the OS once more. I don't care about MediaSource, or endless Audio control panels, I just wish they would work closely MS and write some solid drivers that take maximum advantage of all the hardware capabilites and the features of the new driver model. Personally I'd prefer not to install any hardware specific software, just make some awesome drivers and let Windows take care of the UI for accessing your hardware features.

this is bs why do i have to buy a new sound card drive and pay extra money cos some idiots in creative is not doing their job properly i will never use any sorts of creative products what so ever from now on and people who are as irriteted as i am i suggest you do the same[6][6][6]

Sorry, you are being unfair here. Vista is still in the Beta stage and from what I know 5308 is the first build that finalize the audio stack. It was out just 2 weeks ago, don't you think you need to give them some time? Last I know Vista is going to ship by end of this year.
Actually, it is kind of strange, why is it that when we buy a piece of computer hardware, we expect it to work forever? For consumer products we don't demand this kind of things. When DVD came out, do we take our VCD player to the vendor and demand them to make it work for DVD? Or when our TV gives us problem after the warranty period, why do we need to pay to get it fixed?
-
Audio in 5308 just seems very buggy anyway, so I'm not sure Creative are to blame. The on-board sound in my Dimension 5150 has worked fine in all previous builds. However in 5308 the only place I can get sound is the control panel, everything else throws errors.

so lets say that i am unfair. what would you feel if a toy that your mom gave you in the morning of xmas that didnt work wouldnt you be angry. this is what i am feeling right now cant listen any thing i mean i have been waiting for a release since i was 16. and the dvd thing its apples and oranges!
you pay the price of the audigy 2 because you think that you would have to change it with your pc not when a new release comes out or an update do you?
