IE7: Default Tab Page? New Tab Per New Search?

Is there a way to have a new tab go to a specific page? Instead of the About:Blank and or About:Tab pages it currently goes it?

Also is there a way to force the search box button to open a new tab instead of changing the "in focus" tab or Window?

Lastly is there a way to add CTRL-A to the search and address boxes? So if the text goes off screen I can select it for deletion? Without having to reach over to the highly inconvenient Page Up/Down buttons?

Can anyone tell me the difference between a quick tab and a 'normal' tab? Does having quick tabs mean if it should crash it takes them all down?


Edit: I found you can have your homepage for new tabs. I guess that will do.

Well, Manip, I thought you would like to settle for this. As of the Mix.06 refresh of the IE7 beta 2 preview, you can hold down CTRL button while clicking on the "Home" button on the toolbar to open up a new tab AND make it go to your homepage.

Has anyone *else noticed a bug in which if you use the search box it isn't added to your back/forward history?

e.g. Channel9.msdn.com -> Microsoft.com -> [Search Button] Google "Microsoft Products" -> [Click : Result] Microsoft.co.uk

If you click Back while on Microsoft.co.uk it will take you back to Microsoft.com in the above example, instead of your Google results. This 'bug' is ONLY in the latest beta, not beta 1.

This might be expected behaviour in that Microsoft is trying to be 'helpful' and allow you to browse, stop, search, and then continue without any kind of break in your history.

But I for one don't much care for it. If it is by design I can see WHY it might be helpful, but it isn't the way I like to browse and am used to browsing.

There definately is something very wrong with the Back-button in the latest Beta 2 Preview Refresh from March 20th.
For instance, try going to www.google.com and search for "dell 2407wfp". Press the first result that (right now at least) goes to  http://davenetics.com/newsmonger/category/engadget.
Now try to press Back - it won't work! Google has disappeared.
However, some links later on in the search results do make the Back-button work.

This happens randomly and not only from Google. Suddenly, the Back button just ignores some page(s). The only way to get back to for instance the google search is by  going to "History" in the "Favorites Center".

Guess it should be submitted as a bug...

Yeah that's what I've noticed too.

I went to that exact page and got the same problem.


My guess is it has to do with feed discovery and the "set back button" call not initiating after feed discovery.

Doesn't repro for me with the MIX06 refresh build.  That's not saying it doesn't happen; just makes it harder to find.

Forwarded to the dev/test for this area.

This is a confirmed bug; it generally happens with pages that use a meta tag to change the charset, such as Google. 

It was a regression caused by a fix to a different bug involving duplicate travellog entries.  Unfortunately, it was found after the fork for the MIX06 build. 

The fix actually went on on Tuesday; the problem won't occur with Beta 2.

Go To Regedit

Go to HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/About URLs

Modify The Section Labeled Tabs and Set it to the desired URL you wish it to go.

Don't forget to Press F5 after you modify it
