And here a couple of pics with unfulfilled promises... (From Winhec some years ago)

Looks really disappointing... Please let real designers design the ui. [C]

I'll ignore your "text" comments because I consider most of it useful (especially having the column headers when not in details view is great, and will be even better when list view is back) and most of it was already there in previous versions anyway.
The "arbitrary list of guesses" can be customised! Just drag a folder either from the folder tree or the listing on the right to the "Favorite Links" to put it there. Much more useful than Common Places in XP which couldn't be customised so that was much more of a guess than this was.
"File tree that makes no sense logically in relation to drive", I have no clue what you even mean by that. I hope you don't file bug reports like this, you have to absolutely 100% over-the-top clear in those.

very nice, gadgets, media center are looking cool, better and better etc.
i still don't like explorer, adress/search is fine, but folders tree and that arbitrary list, or maybe just need to try and see. WMP?, that view method (cover art + some info right on it, and then again same info on right under separate columns) is customizable? iTunes is still better, but i prefer winamp for listening music, iTunes only to sync my nano, and WMP for movies. Hope they make some change to MMC. -
Looking great, another kick-a** OS from Microsoft
Dont rush it, rel in spring 2007 is perfect for me, getting a brand new 64bits Intel workstation then with a 30inch display running Vista Ultimate 64
And Oh yeah.....Drop dead Apple. -
Still looks hideous IMO. Absolutely no consistency; bright green, bright blue, transparency so a poor desktop wallpaper choice ruins the whole thing. Those WinHec mock-ups look far, far better. I'm afraid based on what I've seen so far that MS still just "doesn't get it". Hell, this is the same team that worked hard to actually keep Luna under wraps until the release, as if they were actually proud of it some reason and didn't want Apple stealing it. Please! The same ridiculous day-go blue & green colour scheme is now present in Vista. Performance is still a dog, hopefully that will (drastically) improve post beta2. I really wonder if those who are impressed by this build have ever sat down at OSX 10.4 for more than 10 minutes? I just don't get it

Amen. Thankfully I am confident the green<->blue mix is not to stay. It's there just to keep most people away so there's not too much testers.

You dont get it because your favorite os of choice is a nisch-toy from a soon-to-be-gone company who is runned by a bitter old 'lectronics guy that took to much LSD in the 60's?

why you don't provide some images with OS X 10.4? at least 15-20.Nitz Walsh wrote:Still looks hideous IMO. One of my main gripes (UI-wise) is that every Apple app has a different UI. Not only retail apps, but also within the OS. Just compare Mail to finder and then look at garageband. Not even remotly similar.

well, with winfx/wpf that won't be better under windows

I've been running it as a main os for the past few weeks, some things aren't completely finished yet but so far it's a lot better than mac os.

Now, now. There's no need to make it personal. It's just an OS after all.About the blue and green being hideous: Why? First of all, it's not blue here, and green there (not that they aren’t only half a step from each other on the color wheel); it’s blue+green=teal at the top. Plus, if it was just a completely solid color that would just be boring, right? I actually quite like it, not that I wouldn't mind some customization avalable.

Ah, it's summertime already! The kiddies are here.
For the record, XP user since it's inception. I thought OSX until the latter updates of 10.3 was very, very rough and greatly preferred XP. Only Mac I have is a Mini I purchased to better support the Mac contingent at my place of employment and to experience another OS, other than that been a DYI PC builder for the past 6 years and use my PC 95% of the time. Some of us actually want Vista to be a great OS in all areas and are concerned when they see Microsoft repeating the same mistakes it has in the past.
(Aren't the "Apple is D00MED!" responses getting a lilttle old now, especially as Apple is doing better than it has in the past 5 years when that childish response was trotted out on a daily basis?) -

Interesting. Provide examples please.
Considering I can't even drag a window around the screen without significant stuttering (something a G3 with a Rage 128 can do with OSX for pete's sake), takes over a minute to boot up, the HD is accessing constantly making the system perform like, well..OSX 10.2 on that same G3, the included apps are laughable at this point, interface inconsistency up the wazoo - please, enlighten me.

Haven't we already established that nVidia's Vista drivers stink?

Apple users don't like it either, but Garageband is an extreme example. Virtually _all_ music creation apps have their own funky UI, Apple was simply following the trend here. Apple has been somewhat scizophrenic with regards to using brushed metal, but in terms of interface consistency amongst all applications they're been well ahead of MS. Will Vista change that? Hopefully - hope is all I have at this point after trying the past few CTP's.ddewbofh wrote:One of my main gripes (UI-wise) is that every Apple app has a different UI.
