Pronouncing SQL?

Its a time old debate...

how do YOU pronounce SQL?

for me, its S.Q.L. "ess-que-ell"

What are your opinions? Im taking an informal poll...

Okay, seriously...S, Q, L (ess-cue-ell).

It's "sequel" for me.

Either.

see-qwell when speaking to db-people, S.Q.L. when talking to non-db people.

The name is an intentional pun.  Structured Query Language was developed in the heyday of structured programming, as a replacement for the then-standard Query Language.  So SQL is a sequel to QL.

So you can call it
Structured Query Language
SQL (ess queue ell)
SQL (sequel)
at will.

But then how do you pronounce XQL? (eXtensible Query Language, for XML?)

S, Q, L (ess-cue-ell).

(If you want, put your nationality, just cause it is interesting..

Sequel.. and ask them, so do you called "ASP" asp? or A.S.P?

When it first came out, I heckled the programmers by calling it squirrel.

Jake you lose, it's sequel.

2 out of 3 dentist prefer sequel.

so then it would also be..  My Sequel?
