Google only uses OSS on theior servers. Their search algorithm is not Open Source. So its not Google powered by OSS. Microsoft should have bought out Yahoo a long time ago. I doubt Google would stand by while an aquisition by Microsoft or a merger occurred. They would complain as much, if not more than the MSN Search bar in IE.

I dont think it was bad when Sun and Microsoft joined sides. Im a bit disappointed because nothing ever materialized out of that deal. The only thing I have seen is a mixer where MS bought a bunch of Sun gear.

re - above - this might be why google is having so much UI troubles. Apart from "simple and plain" aka = yahoo 92 - they dont really have a unifying theme, feel, look ..history!
