I have been reading about the MSN music store should be open soon, and Channel 9 guess on a date?
Also What do you think the prices will be?

You know how a certain XBox game is being beta-tested by Microsoft employees? Sort of a perk of the job?
Well, if you were going to roll out a really big music service, and you had 50,000 employees, and you wanted to do some load-testing on it, what would YOU do?
Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got to go turn the volume up a bit... -

Hmm, I am sending my resume now.

Long time lurker, first time poster here...
I work on the MSN Music team and we are indeed getting ready to launch our music service, but at this point if I say any more than that people in black helicopters will come and "take care of me"
Seriously, we are working 24/7 to get the service out and we're really excited to let the world see what we've been working on... stay tuned!

Oh man... what a tease!!!
Hypothetically speaking, in theory, if there was something big going to happen, soon, possibly, in the next couple of weeks, say -- and I'm not saying what -- it could be anything -- could you just please, you know, COUGH.
No prices.
No exact dates.
Not even a mention of what, exactly, could happen.
Just a discreet little throat-clearing.
Can hardly wait to see if the store carries Komeda and Lush!!!!!
On a completely unrelated note, wouldn't "The Black Helicopters" be a cool name for a band? </Dave Barry> -
I sincerely hope it fares better than the MSN Direct Watches..
In the Philly Area, I have heard many commercials on NPR (and seen in the print media too) for the direct watches a while back, but now, they've seem to have faded away. -
I do feel a slight tickle in my throat... actually no, that's just a piece of a popcorn kernel from the movies last night
(Garden State, in case
anyone's curious, is a phenomenal film - go see it immediately) -
Hey, if you sell to Canada you'll get my business. That simple.
-
Awesome, Rob!!! Glad to hear it! About, the, uh, "film," I mean.
Yeah, that's it, the film....
I'll hold off buying another iPod for at least a couple of weeks.
Who knows, something better might just come along.... -

Now I won't be forced to go to iTunes everytime I want a song that isn't in Walmart's selection.
By the way, is there any word on pricing?

Neowin is saying this Thursday; songs 99 cents each. There's also a screenshot.

CNET reports that the store will be in "beta mode," whatever that means.

I am assuming previews of songs will be available, to match those in the iTunes Music Store. One of the cool things about the ITMS, though, is that previews seem to play "almost instantly" (within a second or two) after double-clicking on a song. I hope that MSN's version does the same, instead of inflicting "Buffering..." on us.... -

Yes that's an amazing technology, I think here is how they do it. When you open a window with particular set of songs, it immediately buffers the songs in that window. Probably they did some testing to decide which song to buffer first.

Scooped by Neowin... again!!!

Check out the new store, you don't need WMP 10, and the HTML still smells fresh:
http://beta.music.msn.com/
The Good:
They have Komeda. And Lush.
The Bad:
When you play a sample, it seems to take about twice as long to start playing as does the iTunes Music Store. FIX THIS!!! Online music purchases are all about INSTANT GRATIFICATION!!!
The Ugly:
Jessica Simpson on the home page? (Just kidding. But her teeth are scarily white. God is tasteful, and didn't overuse FFFFFF in His palette.) It's a little heavy on text compared to the iTMS, and is skewed towards popular music. Whereas iTMS seems more diverse on the home page, and will at least get me thinking about buying music in genres that I normally wouldn't consider... oh and kill the huge banner at the top, I kind of don't need the constant reminder that it's the MSN Music store... -
I like the breadth of content in terms of not just music but TV and radio and cinema. I wont judge on the speed for now as it will be being hammered by everyone at the moment (half of the free radio stations are posting over-bandwidth signs!).
Odd that Microsoft should just release this now, just as I am starting to weigh up exactly which MP3 player to buy (that Creative Zen Touch is leading in that area - and no, I'm not buying an iPod!). The only really bad thing though is that the service seems awfully US-oriented. I hope it wont take a year or more for the service in other territories to start.

The webmasters of http://beta.music.msn.com must be retarded: when you do a standards-compliance check of that site you get 741 errors from 1088 lines of code.
That means for every 1.5 line of code you have an error. I call that catastrophic.

Rob Bennet, can you explain this? I would really like to see your reaction on this. -

And Microsoft is a member of the W3C. -_-
