The movie doesn't draw in Firefox, and the resizing doesn't work in IE 7... Nice site... Well, not really...

That was pretty cool. It worked fine in Firefox.

Funny, it does work fine in 1.5.0.3 Firefox but not in Bon Echo

Tools > Options > Content > Javascript > "Allow browser window to be resized" > "Disabled"
For a good reason
Oh, and this isn't new, Weeble 'n' Bob did something similar a few years ago.

IE7 won't allow the outer window frame to be resized if more than one tab is open. In the single tab case, this should resize fine.Manip wrote:The movie doesn't draw in Firefox, and the resizing doesn't work in IE 7... Nice site... Well, not really... -

Does IE7 have an option to prevent scripting from accessing certain DOM objects like FF?

Uhm, why won't IE resize when multiple tabs are open? I can't imagine any valid reason to do such a weird thing.
It won't allow Javascript to resize the window when multiple tabs are open.
I'm guessing because it might mess with other open tabs or something.

Uhm, why won't IE allow javascript to resize the window when multiple tabs are open? I can't imagine any valid reason to do such a weird thing, it's not like other pages will break when they resize.
Edited for clarity.

Consider two tabs that both want to resize, or three, or five, or ten. Which tab wins?Rowan wrote:

There are plenty of situations like this. -

Y'see, this is the sort of situation where MS could really offer some extra user control. Personally, as someone who's much smarter than most people, I'd love to have more options. I want buttons, boxes, and other controls, for everything.
I think Windows should have some sort of a 'User PC Expertise' slider we can move up or down. The lower we set it, the more like Windows Me / Windows Me SE (read: Vista) it is; The higher we set it, the more like Windows Server 2003 / NT4 / DOS / *nix it is. Of course, these presets would all be overrideable in Start > Control Panel > User Experience > Intelligent Customization .
Regardless, to answer your query:
Tools > Options > Advanced > Expert Options > Window Resizing
(o) Disallow all automated window size changes
(o) Allow from current tab only
(o) Allow from all tabs
(o) Resize in the order requested
(o) Resize first request per [___] seconds
(o) Allow only from trusted sites
(o) Allow only from custom sites [Set...]

The last one that runs the script?
Either way, whenever I find a page that tries to resize my window I close the page instantly, except for the example above where a warning was given.
I wouldn't care if this behaviour was completely disabled in IE7, but at least be consistent in supporting it, either it accepts resize, or it doesn't.

The problem I see with allowing a tab to resize the window is that you get a tab you intended to load in the background (not knowing it was going to resize the window) disrupting your reading by resizing your browser window (usually to some ridiculously small size).
