Ive done this before and I have fixed it but my horrible memory fails me once again. I was downloading files and accidentally turned off the File Download Dialog Box notifications. It said dont show this notification again and I unclicked it not even paying
attention to what I was doing. Now when i click on a download link instead of asking where I want to save it or if I want to download it, it just automatically opens it and saves the file in my temp internet files. How can I fix this? I want my download notifications
box back

Internet Options --> Security --> choose Custom Level
There should be a checkbox that lets you re-activate prompting for downloads again. -
Well ive tried that I went into internet options and put everything that has to do with downloads on prompt and still nothing. I dont know what else to do. Its making me angry becuase it was a stupid mistake that I dont know how to fix.

I found the "Notify when downloads complete" in "Internet Options" -> "Advanced" but that doesn't sound like the problem you're having. I'm not seeing the thing you're describing though, what version of IE are you using?
