Richard Costall, John Price and Dave McMahon would like to announce the formation of a new User Group in the UK called The Next Generation User Group (known as NxtGenUG). The purpose of the User Group is to help its members discover and get excited about
all the latest and new technologies coming out of Microsoft such as .NET 2.0, SQL Server 2005, WPF, WCF, WF, LINQ, Office 12 and .NET 3.0.
It doesn’t matter what development language is your language of choice, and we will also be covering techniques and technologies currently out there which people are using now.
Featuring meetings, articles and interviews with Soma, Parimal Deshpande and Industry speakers...

Ding ding ding! We have a winner
Actually you may be interested in the Scottish Developer group who are trying to put a day togther to match DDD. Of course if you're in Manchester that really doesn't help. But it serves you right.

Manchester? MANCHESTER? I'll have you know I am from the correct side of the country. -

Nice one chaps !
I've joined up !
I would travel hundreds of miles to see Richard and Dave present again because it's never a dull presentation, it's a fantastic way to learn when you're having a laugh.
Anyway don't be such a bunch of miserable tarts that want it all on a plate, if you want something happening in your neck of the woods, organise it or get involved, it all takes effort and investment, most people in the community start off as just a bunch of friends just getting together and paying for it out of their own money. Microsoft are actually very good at supporting if they can see your commitment.
So stop moaning and get organising! ... specially you students! How easy would that be! You have access to rooms and a dedicate base of supporters nearby, all the smucks on the same course as you and the years above and below, how hard would it be to start a group ... piece of cake!!! It gives you kudos and gets Microsoft to know who you are, always handy for when you want to get a job. Wish I had done it when I was at Uni ... so stop wasting time. -
May be a good thing for C9 would be a user groups listings? That way you could find the nearest group for you or promote your own.

MSDN already has it.

So, are you in Yorkshire?
If you are, that is interesting as I am also.

I wouldn't bother trying the one in Manchester, emailed three times, got a response the first time and nothing since so either..
1. They can't organise their way out of a wet paper bag, or
2. I've got a terrible reputation.
Place your bets ...
Actually having a brief look I can't find their site anymore, they use to meet at AlphaMeric I think ..

Thanks for the great comments sabot - most appreciated
If any of you are interested in starting a new user group in the UK, NxtGenUG would be happy to help - we'd love to add to our regions and are looking for enthusiastic developers to join us and help coordinate these events.
Every developer has a story to tell, maybe you could do a presentation for us, or know somebody who would, or even write an article for the NxtGenUG Site.
Drop us an line through the site, we'd be happy to talk to you.

Followed the bread crumbs and ended up at CodeZone. I have to register with CodeZone to see the Users Groups! Since user groups are meant to be open welcoming places I'm presented with a bouncer on the door. I could register and give my details to another website just to have a look, not!
