PS I never got to reply to earlier posts that I read as I was on my mobile which still doesnt work here One thing I remembr is Littleguru saying that England didnt look good enough too win from the first group. To that, littleguru, I can tell you are nto old enough to remember 1982. Italy scraped out of the group with three points, and went on to win the whole thing!

It's probably early days to pick a winner yet. Brazil and France were poor but the both have the capability of exploding into life.

Italy, Argentina, Spain and tht Czechs looked the best so far, but the Czechs without Koller and Baros for the tournament may fall short.

Holland look good too but there's already rumlings in the camp with Van Persie saying Robben is greedy. It's only a matter of time before the Dutch request to play with eleven footballs.

Of course the world cup wouldn't be the world cup without Spain bottling it so you can probably rule them out while Italy will probably try to defend a one nil lead only to lose in injury time.

You can also rule out the South Americans as they never win in Europe (ok the one time).

England are like a trajic comedy as far as the world cup goes and I expect Roney to come on against Germany only to be sent off a few minutes later.

So baring all that in mind my prediction is Germany!

France? Explode in to life? They have not scored a goal in the world cup since they won it... I'm nto sure they are going to do any better this time. Brazil were poor by Brazils standards.. they need to drop ronaldo, or at least stop feeding him!

after the Spain - Ukraine performance i'm quite hoping spain do well and actually win it for once.

My dad who should actually know something about football (since he's a life member of uefa and sat on FIFA's disciplinary board for 2 world cups) backs Argentina to win.

Tonight at 5pm BST, i'm backing Trinidad and/or Tobago (of course thats my silly joke, Trinindad and Tobago is the real name) to win against England, though of course i'll be cheering on England (or Engerrrrland) to win at the pub because i fear knuckles and pool cues for obvious reasons.

anyway, gooooo Wales for Euro 2008 and World Cup 2010.

Australia

I'll be in Munich on Sunday to watch them shock the world by beating Brazil (again - they beat Brazil last time they played).

Netherlands  and USA

I played soccer for about 10 years and have lost interest since then (1987)  Having looked at the field this year, I would put my money on Italy or Spain.

It's hard to get good coverage when you don't subscribe to the Dish or get Cable TV.  I might get more into it if I had a medium to watch it on.

German and Netherland are good teams, if Brasil and Italy failed to deliver, these two get good chance! Go flying Dutchmen:)

    I firmly believe Germany and Italy has more chance to come to the final, Spain was a underachiever in the previous world cups, and they will be underachiever this time and forever:P, the win against Ukraine cannot prove anything here, Ukrainians are just so inexperienced at that game, and they even didn't know how to manage to attack and defend, ans super Andriy Shevchenko is not in his best shape, probably Ukraine can do much better in the later game, Czechs just play so perfectly, but you lose Koller, and Baros is still off because of injury, so I also think you might fall short this time.
  PS: don't talk about Brazil, I hate Brazil really.
