Microsoft have released this:

I personally like the design, and think it would be a great keyboard; I also really like the backlighting, it would be great for when you are on the computer at night. Has anyone else got thoughts on the 'ultimate keyboard'?

The "ultimate" keyboard would have backlit minature color LCD displays on each key, great for gaming and programs with lots of shortcut keys.

- No numpad
- No F keys
- No home-row
I'll bet it uses laptop-style key latches too.

The "ultimate" keyboard would have built-in finger massage. It would also have built-in AI that would predict what keys you're going to press, and move those keys closer to your fingers.

The very same, thanks for reposting the link, it seems as though that keyboard is finally going to enter production.
If it isn't too expensive, I might consider buying it.

That would be the only keyboard that would make me want to replace my Logitech DiNovo

Ah, the DiNovo. How well do the "Media" features in the removable numpad work?

The buttons are also on the keyboard. The keyboard/numpad is bluetooth, so what I do it set MusicMatch 10's DJ to random something...then I can take the keypad into the front yard to sit in the sun and I can control the music with it(blaring through the window)...volume, back forward, pause, etc
If you use Media Player the song info will come through on the keypads LCD

The ultimate keyboard for me would be one that cures, instead of causes, RSI.

from the MS website.
"The first wireless rechargeable backlit desktop is coming soon"
Sounds like they are describing an Apple pro laptop which entered the market well over 12 monmths ago. I know my 2 month old 17" Mac Book Pro satisfies the claims that they are making. [6] -
I'll definently be buying this keyboard when it comes out, it just looks too cool.

My Apple pro Keyboard is my ultimate keyboard. Although this one does look cool.

while I've been waiting for that very kb to become a reality... I am currently in love with th illuminated kb's by DECK.... a no frills individualy LED illuminated KB..... -
Honestly, it'd be a lot easier to judge the new Microsoft keyboard if I could see some hi-res static images rather than a gratuitous, hyperbole-filled flash animation. What little I can see looks compelling. Having a single charger for both the keyboard and mouse would certainly be convenient. Though having a numpad would be nice, since it's designed to be "couch friendly" I suppose it's not that big a loss.
(BTW, W3bbo, what exactly do you mean by "no home row"? The way I learned it, the home row is merely the center row of alphabetic keys, which are clearly there. Also, the F* keys are there, but they're thiner than the other keys for whatever reason--screen capture here.) -
If that cool looking Windows Vista logo is to start the start menu, i would hate it.
