Why doesn't GMail work on IE? It works on Mozilla, and probably other browsers, but not IE. Does Google have something againest Microsoft?
Can someone who has GMail complain that it doesn't work on IE6/XPSP2, for me? I guess GMail is still in beta mode so they'll have to fix this.
Oh yes, an c9 is the best!

Yes it does

I've not had any problems accessing GMail on IE6 on XP SP2 on half a dozen machines.
Could be issues with Scripting settings on your machine or any number of things. First determine if it's machine specific. Then determine if it's profile specific. If it is, look at your security settings.
Otherwise, contact Google. It's in Beta. Beta is for getting rid of bugs.

I have the exact same problem.
Google Accounts Your browser's cookie functionality is turned off. Please turn it on.
I use Windows XP SP2 and IE 6, default settings. -

Plus Google gives you more Gmail invites if you give them feedback so you can spread the love.
I haven't had any problems with GMail yet on either a Win2K/IE6 system or a WinXP SP2/IE6/FireFox system. YMMV

Try changing the settings on the Privacy tab in Internet Options, press apply, change them back, press Apply.
Now try gmail again. I've had this problem a few times during the SP2 beta (websites claiming cookies were disabled while they were enabled) and that workaround always fixed it.
For the record, I also have no trouble with gmail on IE with XPSP2 here. -
Another possibility is that IE6 has hit the cache limit and has corrupted its index.dat, in which it keeps track of which cache files and cookie files belong to which URLs.
Clear the cache and try again.
IE team: please fix this! -

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Google to un-beta a product. Google News is still in beta.

does it not bother the powers that be ( ms ) that everyone on C9 are trading gmail accounts, discussing it / getting excited about it, and now requesting fixes for it?
If i was the Hotmail VP - id be QUAKING in my boots
Many in my family are also asking me to change their website email forwarding from _name_@hotmail to _name_@gmail - meaning they have gone out of their way to get an account - regular folks
when they release this thing... hotmail will be reduced to an overly complicated login system just to use messenger
of course that's just my opinion i could be wrong -
I'll never switch to Gmail. No calendar for one. GMail is only email. Most other platforms are just that: platforms.

LOL Jamie, you must not have a Gmail account... If I was the Hotmail VP -- I'd be LAUGHING MY * OFF. LOL
The Gmail UI looks like it was thrown together by a pack of rabid howler monkeys.
You can't save a draft. (Apparently no one does this.) For new messages, you either "Send" or "Discard."
There's no formatting of text. No bold, no italics -- unless you consider ALL CAPS as bold and *asterisks* as italics... (Welcome to 1979!)
I puzzled about the plain text for a while until I realized it probably compresses pretty well. LOL -
i have 2 accounts ( thanks lars/manip)
Ya that iPod sucks too - only plays music -
The Gmail hype is ending. Soon it will be just another service.

hmm idunno
the whole google business model is charge partners to play behind the scenes and not charge consumers
also easy to understand licencing.. clean happy branding ... not nickle and diming people
thats no fad from over here

As said I have a Google account. Not that I use it, but I do have one.
The same be said about Hotmail, I have an account, but I just don't use it. These mail addresses are not much more than spamcatchers for me. -
To me the best thing about Gmail is what it does not have: Flashy annoying ads. I still haven't recieved a single piece of spam either. Even tho I'm on a lot of mailing lists.
I've often wondered about spam and Hotmail, since I get spam to accounts that I have never given out the address to. Even on long usernames (that you can't guess by simple first+last name iteration) that I've made sure isn't listed anywhere. I set up a few of those as an experiment and the first spam arrived within 30 minutes. It's very hard to not think that there is some kind of inside operation going on.
I just hope Google won't let Gmail go the same way as Orkut. The Orkut server is so slow that it's practically useless. It's still invite only and no one really cares about it anymore. The time from hype to passe sometimes is very short. -

My University e-mail account has none of those either! And I can read it in Outlook (they have an IMAP server).
Plus it's called U-mail. Since the U is much higher in the alphabet than the G, it has to be better!

Isn't that called "advertising?"
It's how "free" TV works in this country

Weren't they supposed to scan each email you send and ADD annoying ads to each email? Wasn't that originally the idea behind Gmail? Targeted advertising?
I haven't used Gmail much, but I haven't seen any ads so far....
You want to read something scary about Gmail, check out:

Sounds like something out of Minority Report: Google "Guinness Beer"; next email I receive has advertising tacked on saying that "It sure looks like you could use a Guinness!"

Karim, I have seen the ads that they add, and they aren't annoying. I used Mozilla to get on to my gmail account - easy. I used IE to get on to my gmail account - oh wait I didn't get on to it.
I can't even get on to www.gmail.com it just stuffs up and returns a blank page. I looked at the source and it says that I have javascript disabled on my IE browser.
Anyone know how to turn it on again?
