On the way home earlier today, I passed a field full of cows (the French kind).
Nothing out of the ordinary you'd think, but the spooky thing was that all the cows (at least 30 or so) were grazing, and they were all grazing in the
exact same direction. They were all pointing in the direction of the now-setting sun (just barely above the horizon, the sky was a beautiful red)
Is this "normal" behaviour for cows?

It's more likely that they were pointed away from the wind, rather than pointing toward the setting sun.

There's another species that has a similar feeding habbit. I think they're called humans. Check them out when they sit in things called 'lunch rooms'. They all sit at long tables facing each other... Go figure...

I can’t believe there is a thread about cows on C9!
I lived on a farm with cows for over 10 years and I can tell you that they are all individuals like the bipeds who inhabit this forum. If you go back and look now they will all be pointed in different directions…I wonder what they though about you?
Did you ever think of talking to a farmer, they use computers now.

Hahahaha,

Yes this is normal.
Cows have a great sense of humour and are probably still laughing at your reaction.
(Don't fall for their trick of "pull my hoof"!) -
One of my fellow CompSci students is a farmer. Unfortunately he's about as big a Linux/anti-MS nutter as they come so he's not likely to come on here and answer your question (because fortunately, he doesn't feel the need to troll about it).

You sir, were yellowcarded yesterday. Have you learned nothing?eagle wrote:I can’t believe there is a thread about cows on C9!I lived on a farm with cows for over 10 years and I can tell you that they are all individuals like the bipeds who inhabit this forum. To bad you didn't take a picture of that, may have been funny/strange.

There is no such thing as Normal Behavior for cows:

It's too bad it wasn't milking time and w3bbo was walking in the same area as the farmer, as they'd have all headed towards him.
