Well I was just searching on, you guessed it, Google.
When I thought to myself 'I wonder what would happen if I did this...'
So then I did 'this...'
And I revealed Google's new browser
here.
I'll probably get a floggin for this but oh well...

GoogleBot isn't new .. it has been around since the start of google and is the core of what is google search results. The web-crawler goes around the net collecting results.
It has no GUI and will never be released. It is really just a basic HTML engine that reads off web-pages and transfers them to a database.

What is this? A joke?

Yes, yes it is.

What do you think of this: http://www.whois.sc/gbrowser.com

it undoubtably would be popular.. So it got me thinking.. Would Microsoft actually care if it lost Internet Browser Dominance? With the reduction of ActiveX usage, I wonder. Sure, there are things you can't do, if you don't have IE, but, it just had me thinking.
-
Would be even better if they invested in Mozilla - after they could have a browser that was cross platform, without worrying about ActiveX and tying users to Windows.

What *can't* you do in non-IE browsers?
I mean other than Windows Update.. :-/

80% of corporate Windows intranet apps?

Doubt it, unless they are heavily dependant on ActiveX. -
Which most corporate intranet apps are, according to recent stats.
How well does .NET's click to install functionality work in .NET?
Could be interesting to see the most popular development platform and the most popular (eventually) browser clash

Such software is never a good idea. You should pick, desktop software OR server web based software. Not server software that is downloaded and used like a desktop app. At least not on a corp. network.
Also, FireFox (for Windows) can run ActiveX controls with an addon. -
I've heard rumors about a Google browser. Considering the number of ex-IE developers they've been hiring makes me wonder if they are working on some sort of app similar to a browser. Knowing Google, it probably won't be conventional. Should be interesting..

With Joe Beda (Avalon) and Adam Bosworth (used to work on IE) we may see a browser by Google (probably based on Mozilla, as they had that developers day). Maybe Google will reignite the browser wars (more so than Firefox) - or even hire some of the Firefox developers.

At this point, alot of people would choose a text based browser over IE. People who are using such heavy ActiveX and other such objects in a corporate environment are just stuck using IE. They dont have any other choice.

can you do windows update without IE in sp2? i thought you could do soemthing at shutdown that would do that part for you. i never understood why update relied on IE in the first part -- just seems like you'd really have to double and triple check security issues with that!
