Being in a head HCI role somewhere.

I like where I work now (IE7), don't want to leave and I don't want more responsibility. I have a good work/life balance.
I agree with the grass looking greener. Another browser that shall remain nameless likes to try to recruit our people, but I'm sure the work situation is just about the exact same there.
(At the risk of poking a bear) No one wants to work at BCS? -
SCSF & CAB for VS2005 .NET 2.0, with .NET 3.0 Workflow, Communication, and Presentation Foundations interoperating -- in my own shop.

The ideal environment is one where there are people around you much better than you that you can learn from. Or people who don't know as much as you but are keen to learn and really take what you teach them and run with it.
The worst environment is one full of jobsworths and people playing politics who think that "knowledge is power" and "knowledge that nobody else has is even greater power" and thus refuse to share. -
Totally agree with irascian.
Also, wouldn't like to work with developers who consider development 'just another job', unwillingness to embrace new technology, and don't want to better themselves and their skills....but sadly, sometimes you have too, and if that happens you just have to make the best of it as you can. -
I would like to have a job that isn't necessarily development, but it would allow me to develop software in my free time that would help me; that is because I want to learn things when I feel like it, or need them, and my knowledge in programming is way too narrow and not solid enough for anything serious. (I think this is because I learn well when I have either a project that is possible for me to do, and/or if I have someone who will encourage me to do it, i.e. a teacher.)

I'd really like to have the opportunity to work for MS. Do you have a vacant position in there?

For a variety of reasons, I think it would be cool to work for Mozilla developing Firefox. The nice thing about open source is that if you're willing to invest the time, it is possible to get involved even if you don't work there.
