Can I upgrade build 5600 to this?
-
thanks - 530k a sec - so far so good

-
Already burning the DVD but unfortunately will have to wait until tomorrow to install.

Looks like the servers in Europe are currently giving the highest bandwidth (at least for me). ~860KB/sec. Tried Asia first and was only getting about 220KB. I'm sure that the US servers are getting slammed, so I usually don't even bother with them.
I'm DL'ing from Texas, BTW. -
im afraid to cancel it to check... last time i hit "wake up" button on new keyboard by accident and it shutdown! went from 500k to 60k or something when i resumed.
ps - another friday - another relase - thanks in advance ms (again)
fridays are good days to release new versions = weekend to load -
..download done. goes to burn ISO ... remembers cant burn anything in vista ... DOH!
what works again (downloadable/free) ??

-
what is new in this build?
-
I guess we will be hearing a review from Paul Thurrott soon..
Hope to see some screenshots

...i was going to load this - but no burner in vista.
before i hunt down a temp burner - is there any reason to load this over rc1? ( short of alot of work)
- does it in fact upgrade rc1 (dream on)
- did ms write shader 2 drivers for nvidea (all) and ati catalyist (all) ?
- is open gl fixed in above drivers?
- is home networking - //laptop/administrator fixed? instead of (proper) //laptop (no network for laptop - even when it worked)
- wireless - does it remember now?
- is the burner issue itself (virtual drive space) fixed?
? -
If it makes you feel any better, the US servers were slammed about 30 seconds after the build went live (Cleveland, OH, on a fiber connection), I dont know why though, everyone knows to just steal bandwidth from the Euro server.tribalcactus wrote:Looks like the servers in Europe are currently giving the highest bandwidth (at least for me). ~860KB/sec. Jamie,
For your dvd/cd burning issues, the best thing that works is the Win2k3 resource tools. I've tried several free/commerical apps and had some sort of problems (all builds until this recent one - that i haven't yet installed).
The win2k3 resource kit is available at:

There is a cdburn.exe and dvdburn.exe - command line tools that just take the cd/dvd Drive in parameter and the ISO image path. It works pretty fast and is without hassels (unless you try a Movie dvd ISO .. that guy had some serious issues).

thanks keeron - but "command line tools" scared me away!

Wow! It's going fast now... I have 5600 for 2 weeks now and they have already released a newer build... I'm gonna wait for RTM now.
-
Yeah, same here. Unless this can upgrade the RC1 build, I'm not gonna bother.
-
This build can upgrade RC1.
The bad point is a lot of ISO mounting software refuses to work, Daemon Tools, VCdControlTool, Magic ISO etc.
Apparently 'FantomDVD-Beta' works though (never heard of it before or tried it yet). -
Doesn't anybody actually read the announcements newsgroup? It clearly states that you can upgrade from RC1 to this build.
Anyway I installed it clean (always do, I loathe upgrades). Installed Audigy2 drivers, speedfan, WinRar, Office 2007 B2TR, Visual Studio 2005, my own Find As You Type add-on, it all seems to work.
The file/folder icons inside WinRAR are no longer messed up, and the messages you get during the performance check phase of setup are different, but aside from that I haven't seen any major changes. For most of the actual bugs I want to see if they've fixed them I need my other system which I won't be able to do until monday.
