Apple have released 3 new adverts - this
one *almost* made me smile.
Where'd I put that flameproof coat?

I like the idea behind the adverts, but I don't like the content, it annoys me that these adverts are extremely biased, but I suppose one has to expect that in an advert for a product.

If only they supplied them in Windows Media format!

And why oh why do they want an email address just to download quicktime? *sigh* abuse@apple.com is going to get their crappy newsletters, because I sure as heck don't want them. -

No reason to enter your email address. Just click download.

"Objective advertising" - that would be a whole new idea. But wait a minute - wouldn't it then be called "documentation"? -
RossJ I was just about to post this...Apple is getting horrible with their adverts.
First Video: PC is said 5 times, while Mac is said 3 times, PC is better dressed and a whiz with numbers....Macs are juvenile....now I get the point...but really this video turned me off to buying a Mac if I didn't love the asethetic value of them.
Second Video: Previous adverts said that Macs were great at creative things and that they were for more artistic things, yet they begin this video off with the PC saying "I just finished a home movie", the Mac says he did it on iMove and it was easy...(for a computer user)...now the PC says his is excellent, he uses a hypeword...for someone seeing a commercial I think that'll stand out. Then the girl comes out. "Hi, I'm a Mac Homvie", WHAT!?!?!
"What's up PC home movie"...now I admit that was wrong, really, really wrong to see...BUT then the PC says "Work in progress" showing a talent is needed...most people understand that. They'll take the "Work in progress" = I want to learn home editing vs. a Mac will make everything look professional (Bullcrap).
Third Video: Got back from a meeting, why? First off this tells me that no Macs don't do meetings, something must be wrong (I know I'm playing devils advocate here). Also if you're going to have someone come back from a meeting and appear to look cleaned up...AT LEAST SHAVE! I've been running Microsoft Office for years (Cha ching Microsoft). PC: Microsoft Office
Apple How many times are you going to say PC and Microsoft Office in these commercials? "I knew this day would come"...the Mac did something wrong right? There is plenty of work out there for BOTH of us. Hmm, so tell me again why do I need a Mac? Just let me lie here and appreciate (I know he says depreciate). That says he doesn't need to do much work anymore cause Macs can do it...very confusing given the conversation.
I know I'm playing the hard line here...but after reading this post go back and watch the videos...I betcha you see what I mean -
oh my god - i think i need to projectile vomit

Cybermagellan you make some good points -
they're better than Geico commercials

No way! I can't wait to see the next part with the caveman in the airport. And the lizard is funny every time. The Mac ads would be good if they weren't intentionally misleading.
I actually like the one with the magnetic plug, because it's a reasonable fair argument, PC manufacturers have fallen behind in creating new hardware features people actually want.
But most of them are just annoying. Needless to say when I saw Jeepers Creepers on TV the other day I was quite satisfied with the ending.

Cybermagellan, I agree.
JKelly, the same. The adverts are confusing to the audience, as well as intentionally misleading.
In the coming weeks, my Computer Graphics class is going to go to the school's Mac lab to make videos. I will be very interested to compare Windows Movie Maker to iMovie. But in any case, WMM is more than sufficient for home movies.
I don’t know about MagSafe. It seems like a good idea, but I have never had the “trip over the power cord and pull the laptop of the desk” problem. I have tripped on the power cord before, but the laptop didn’t fall. -
I LOL'd when I saw the PC home movie. The PC guys is definitely getting the better script, though. You don't see the Mac guy go on the Jon Stewart show & getting huge applaud for saying "I'm a PC".Rossj wrote:Apple have released 3 new adverts - this one *almost* made me smile.

So, I got to thinking (it hurts). Why the media campaign? Does Apple want OS/X to be the next Windows? Obviously cheaper hardware was the goal w/ the move for going w/ Intel.
But, you know. I just order for my father a $600 PC w/ monitor. It's a Pentium D / 1GB / 160GB, so it's no slouch. The Mac just can't compete w/ an open hardware platform that Windows has decades headstart.
From an open platform / cheap hardware perspective, Windows IS a better O/S. Apple has lots of catching up to do, and it'll take more than some funny ads.

If Apple wanted to let OS X run on any PC hardware, they could've. It's clearly a conscientious choice and happens more often than not in the rest of the computer industry. Why do you think IBM, Sun, HP, etc. bundle their operating system with their hardware? To give the best overall experience for the user since they know exactly what hardware it will be run on. -
Both of the actors seem affable enough, but the smarmy tone is a little fatiguing. Then again, that's always been their style. When the IBM PC was introduced, Apple ran full-pages ads titled "Welcome, IBM. Seriously." in the WSJ.
... I wonder if they're planning any ads for Zune.

No they couldn't. They would have to deal with all the hardware manufacturers to ensure that OS X runs well on those platforms. For whatever reasons, Apple doesn't want that hassle.

Well, of course. But those IBM, Sun, HP OS'es don't have the grand ambition of being a consumer O/S.

I can't get QuicktTime working on Vista. The installer exits with some error code
