Considering the lack of good CMS/Forums systems for Asp.net, would you ever consider opening the hood of your codebase, Jeff, Adam?
You wouldn't have to worry about support; just throw up the source and the SQL db scheme in a zip.... I am sure we all can figure out some wiki support for you ![]()
Come on.... open the code ![]()

Wasn't Channel 9 originally based on Community Server? Why not check them out?

Any particular reason why you aren't a big fan of DotNetNuke?

I concurr. It would boost Microsoft to release EvNet, even without any kind of support, just a "caveat emptor" disclaimer would be fine.

We agree it could be an awesome thing to ship the source for EvNet. Right now though we just can't commit to it.
We are currently commited to the following:
1. Shipping awesome code that delivers a great experince for 9/10
2. Tightening up our Web API so you can built your own experiences
Once we get past that we can look at opening it up. We definitely are building it all with opening it up in mind, just can't commit to it yet.

C9 is going to be using the new on10 codebase (there was a thread a couple of days ago by the team, showing the C9 data running on the 10 codebase).
I have made a possibly prejudiced opinion that Community Server 2 is bloat, which means I probably won't be using it. I haven't checked out dotnuke, but I have heard it's pretty poor.

The license would have to disallow reselling of the code... something could be figured out. Asp.net forums was initially developed inside Msft, was it not? That was free for the community to use.
Edit:
I really should not have used the generic term, "OSS", which could imply that they should release it under the GPL or something. Release it for community use, in the same sense in which previous msft asp.net projects have been released. Wasn't FlexWiki created by an ms employee? -

Any closer to this being a reality? I just watched the Meet the EvNet Dev Team video and would really like to see the nuts & bolts behind the platform (particularly of entries and tags). It fits in with enhancements I would like to make to my application and I was really impressed with what the guys have done!
I know that releasing code isn't your focus but it would make you guys real legends in my book (and I'm sure others) and what better way to evangelise!
If this really wasn't possible (please let it be
) then maybe one of you could post a series on your personal blog as to how it is done (with schema snapshots, code samples etc). In the vein of a ScottGu technical post.
I wait with anticipation and baited breath!
